  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is this understanding of irresistible grace possible?

By regeneration, do you mean born again referred in John 3? So did Cornelius obtain life before he came to the actual decision to accept the gospel of Christ? I see differently. I see the work of the Holy Spirit on Cornelius to prepare his heart first, then the hearing of the gospel, then...

Is this understanding of irresistible grace possible?

So the work of the Holy Spirit is indeed a process guiding a person, like Cornelius, ultimately coming to saving faith when he hears the gospel? That is what I have been saying, isn't it? The irresistible grace is a process where the Holy Spirit works on the elects, preparing their heart until...

Is this understanding of irresistible grace possible?

Let me ask you about Cornelius (Acts 10). How is it possible, before coming to saving faith", that "he and all his family were devout and God-fearing... and prayed to God regularly"? Did he use his own volition choosing to fear God? Or was he regenerated a long time ago before knowing the...

Is this understanding of irresistible grace possible?

We need the grace of God, so that the gospel will be presented to us "But how are they to call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are...

Is this understanding of irresistible grace possible?

I guess it ends up to be a discussion about whether regeneration precedes faith, or faith precedes regeneration. That will be another discussion topic. Are you suggesting that a genuine Calvinist must believe regeneration precedes saving faith?

Is this understanding of irresistible grace possible?

This may be where I differ from you. Some Calvinists argue that regeneration precedes exercising of faith. Scripture time after time teaches that "Believe... and you will be saved" (Acts 16:31), "Repent...and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit" (Acts 2:38), "that by believing you may...

Is this understanding of irresistible grace possible?

Instead of one magical moment of effectual calling of the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit usually works on a person over a period of time, removing the stubbornness, answers individual's doubts through conversation with Christians or through reading bible... etc. While it may seem that the person...

Is this understanding of irresistible grace possible?

No, I am not new to the doctrine of grace.

Is this understanding of irresistible grace possible?

Lesliedellow, you just said it yourself: "It is possible that some of God's elect will spend all but the final ten minutes of their lives as atheists, and that the Holy Spirit will lead them to their final destinations in the course of those final ten minutes." The conversion does not happen...

Is this understanding of irresistible grace possible?

Justification happens when we accept Christ, but the irresistible grace is a process. Not only it is a process leading up to a person accepting Jesus Christ as a personal savior. It is still a ongoing process after justification where an elect will persevere in the faith till the end. The "P" in...

Is this understanding of irresistible grace possible?

Let me explain why I am thinking this way... Rom 8:29 says as all elects are predestined to redemption, every one of them is also predestined to be conformed to the image of Christ. During Christian's road to be conformed to the image of Christ, we struggle a lot too. Often we resist the work...

Is this understanding of irresistible grace possible?

Some understands the irresistible call of the Holy Spirit to saving faith as a point in history. I see it as a process. Let me know what your think: The following is about a possible work of God in the life of the elects before redemption: 1. The call of the Holy Spirit is a process: The Holy...
