  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The ANE perspective on creation & am I fence sitting?

Thanks for your reply. I've heard of a similar view myself. From Nothing to Nature by Prof. E.H. Andrews, he suggests something something to that effect in the last chapter of his book. Only, he's not arguing for the sake of the scientific consensus on the evolutionary process. He still didn't...

The ANE perspective on creation & am I fence sitting?

For a big part of my life I have been confident in the young earth creation model but one thing that has sort of been a sticking point for me is the ancient near east (ANE) interpretation of creation. It was first pointed out to me in talking about day 2 of creation, the idea that the writer is...

The Most Stupidest Conspiracy Theories To Date ?

There are a lot of different theories surrounding secret societies. I noticed that at least 4 on the list are theories that people attribute to the Illuminati and/or Freemasonry-- the shape-shifting lizards, one eye symbolism, JFK assassination and bohemian grove. There are all sorts of...

The Most Stupidest Conspiracy Theories To Date ?

I'm not convinced climate change is largely the result of man-made causes. Does the climate change? Yes. but that doesn't prove that it's on a trajectory that leads to an existential threat to human civilization. It could very well be that the earth naturally fluctuates warmer to colder over the...

The Most Stupidest Conspiracy Theories To Date ?

Hmm, I don't necessarily believe in that part of it. I think our view of end times certainly shapes how we think on this subject. I no longer hold to the pre-mill camp (I've not read this book yet, Christian Nationalism, but the author holds to a view he calls optimistic amill). I think amill...

The Most Stupidest Conspiracy Theories To Date ?

Yes, you're right, the Illuminati isn't a conspiracy but there are conspiracies concerning them positing that they still exist as an organization. In 1784, Charles Theodore issued a decree prohibiting all "communities, societies, and fraternities" not authorized by him, and a further edict in...

The Most Stupidest Conspiracy Theories To Date ?

Hey Apple, I was curious what you were posting after your last thread got closed for comments. This is a good topic by the way. Many seem to think that preoccupation with conspiracies is a waste of time and just write off others as "those conspiracy theorists" . Of course there are extremes to...

Why People Believe The Earth is Flat

But here's the thing, I could be wrong. Don't take my word on it. On Luke's use of "man" some commentators suggest that in the original Greek context, "man" in Luke 5:20 might have come across more like "friend," or that Luke is simply identifying the man as an adult. I could not tell you for...

Why People Believe The Earth is Flat

Probably not in our lifetime, but billionaires will certainly be looking into it. Have you heard of the dearMoon project? On Wikipedia it states: That's the other problem with these things. The other reason we haven't gone back to the moon is because of politics. Some presidents will cancel...

Why People Believe The Earth is Flat

I think it goes back to prophecy. We know that the Bible speaks for itself because countless prophecies came to pass. In that sense it makes the Bible self-authenticating. I call them differences not errors or apparent contradictions not contradictions. When it is carefully looked into it can...

Why People Believe The Earth is Flat

Yes, but I don't think it amounts to a direct contradiction or error. It seems you are trying to extrapolate from this that this amounts to a historical error to show that scientific errors can exist as well. But I don't see the parallel. The gospels still harmonize and these differences don't...

Why People Believe The Earth is Flat

It is funny, I can't argue with that. But it doesn't mean that it didn't happen, it just means that they were built different. Those generation of astronauts were brave and willing to try new things even with the limits of their technology.* The reason we haven't gone back to the moon is because...

Why People Believe The Earth is Flat

I think it's interesting to note what Ellicott's Commentary says on this: My understanding of it is that perhaps Matthew and Mark were emphasizing the compassion he had for the man, but in all likeliness he probably did just refer to him as "man".

Why People Believe The Earth is Flat

Oh that’s right! I did question you about it. But I think in context you were correcting Corey because he was dismissive about your claim since a lot of these same scholars accept the documentary hypothesis, which states that the Pentateuch was created by combining four originally independent...

Why People Believe The Earth is Flat

Then why did you feel the need to tell me about the history of what church leaders thought about the age of the earth? Remember, you shared a video from Inspiring Philosophy to show that there were a variety of opinions on the subject. Sure, it's not the end all but some traditions do hold...
