  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Omnipotence

Have I just been going on a different definition of "all-powerful" than everyone else?

    Omnipotence

First, I'd like to point out the difference between "The truth" and "Truth". Second, their pastors could in theory dedicate their time to the less central doctrines, yes. Assuming they have pastors. Most churches, however, are more concerned with "This is My commandment, that you love one...

    Omnipotence

    I think you misunderstand "omnipotent."

    Omnipotence

I'm not sure where in the Bible God claims to be truth. Or at least only truth. Besides, many Christians haven't read the bible cover to cover. A significant number, being illiterate, can't. "Gen 17:1: And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto...

    Can Homosexuals Consent?

You're able to give consent if you can and do understand what you're agreeing to do and the consequences thereof. We generally assume, reasonably enough, that young children and adults in certain mental conditions are not able to understand. So, are homosexuals unable to understand what...

    Omnipotence

Yeah, but... an omnipotent god could create a universe in which man was truly free, as free as we are now, and man could not cause suffering to others, and these two facts weren't contradictory. Also, the "God is truth" definition of god isn't widely accepted even by christians, and is in any...

    Omnipotence

Unfortunately this doesn't really answer my question. Are you saying you think God could have created a universe in which children aren't murdered, but that you have faith that it was a good idea to create one where they are? See, it's this part I take issue with. Omnipotence implies God could...

    Omnipotence

Alright, so. I've been thinking. Most modern religions, including Christianity, postulate an omnipotent god. Furthermore, Christianity and many other religions say God has given humans free will. Most of these religions say that this free will is the reason for a number of evils - why children...

    When is abortion okay

Ignoring for the moment the rape cases, I'll point you to my previous post on what a choice is: "Princeton's Wordnet tells me a choice is defined as 'option: one of a number of things from which only one can be chosen'. If you can either a.) get an abortion, likely saving your life and not...

    When is abortion okay

If that's valid, the "it was her time to go" thing parents tell their children when Grandma dies isn't. No one says "God took her into heaven, although his grand plan would have worked out better if the doctor hadn't given her the wrong medication." This is getting a bit off-topic, though.

    When is abortion okay

Technically "pro-gun" is a bit of a misnomer. It should be "pro-gun rights", as in you believe people should have the right to own guns. So "pro-abortion rights" would properly convey what people actually believe, whereas "pro-abortion" does not. (Again, this is because "pro-abortion" implies...

    When is abortion okay

No, there's a very important difference. Pro-abortion implies one thinks the default option on pregnancy, barring mitigating circumstances, should be to abort. Pro-choice doesn't imply a view on what the default option should be (although obviously very nearly all people think the default should...

    When is abortion okay

Princeton's Wordnet tells me a choice is defined as "option: one of a number of things from which only one can be chosen". If you can either a.) get an abortion, likely saving your life and not bringing a likely seriously ill child into the world or b.) not get an abortion, likely killing...
