  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is it Biblical for the death penalty to still apply today?

I did not say the US only executed serial killers. I'm fully aware the US system is broader in the crimes it executes people for. I'm not aware of any system that executes only serial killers but I'm saying that if a country is concerned about executing an innocent person by mistake, executing...

Is it Biblical for the death penalty to still apply today?

Lots of assumptions in your post. Having no death penalty does not prove there will be less violent crime. That's illogical. You mention Sweden as an example. Sweden is now number two on the list of rape countries, surpassed only by Lesotho in Southern Africa. Its gun crime has soared. Sweden’s...

Is it Biblical for the death penalty to still apply today?

I agree. There's a world outside the US and we're not just talking about that specific country. The system doesn't have to be as convoluted as theirs or as broad as executing people for just one murder. A system that executes only serial killers. The law would have to define the meaning of a...

Is it Biblical for the death penalty to still apply today?

Yes that was before DNA technology. Starting today how many would be wrongly convicted? We don't have many serial killers in the UK and I'm not aware of any that have been wrongly convicted.

Is it Biblical for the death penalty to still apply today?

Depends what the death penalty is for. I haven't known of any serial killers to be wrongly convicted. If there is then the law can be tweaked.

Should parents teach young children about God?

Hell is translated from 4 different words. Later translations than the KJV have replaced Hell with their original words in some passages. Old Testament Sheol means Pit or Grave. New Testament Hades seems to be the equivalent. Job asks to be hidden from God in Sheol. So that isn't Hell. Gehenna...

Unsure as to whether to look for another church.

Hi Martyr's Crown, Thanks for your question. Yes I am a member of this church. I have been for about 3 years. I should stress that people do speak to me but as mentioned previously there are a few cliques where some simply don't ever speak or acknowledge me. I haven't spoken about this to...

Unsure as to whether to look for another church.

If I can get my wife to go along to the other church and she feels more comfortable about going more often then that will be the clincher for me. It's only a small church of maybe 100 people and there are some nice people at my present church but there are a fair number that I have purposely...

Unsure as to whether to look for another church.

I want my wife to be saved. She's reluctant to go to church anyway. I had talked her into going along to the other church then lockdown happened the week leading up to going so it never happened.

Unsure as to whether to look for another church.

I am not sure if I am being legalistic, overly critical or whether my thoughts are actually correct. I have been attending a church for 5 years. I went to a few churches when I first felt led to go to church and I chose this one simply because it was close to home. However it is a Bible based...

    Best Study Bible?

Thanks. That's great to know. I've always wanted to know what the most reliable translation was and if JMc says it is then that's a pretty good endorsement. I'll keep an eye out for that new Bible.

    Best Study Bible?

Thanks JM. I have small phases of reading the KJV to try to get used to it but I still struggle with it and go back to NLT, NET or NKJV.

    Best Study Bible?

Once again, thank you David. I have decided to go for the MacArthur Study Bible 2nd edition to start with and see how I get on. Money permitting I think it's going to be gradual accumulation of other study Bibles and commentaries. I shall certainly keep in mind the Thompson chain reference as...

    Best Study Bible?

Thanks everyone for your replies. It's a really difficult choice as there are so many. Subject specific ones, individual ones e.g. MacArthur and ones where a group of people have written the study notes. I currently have ordinary Bibles in several different translations, NIV, NKJV, NLT, NET and...
