  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Did the NT writers have it all wrong?

Are you egging me on GW? Life gets in the way of forums sometimes. I appreciate you finally getting to the point...the round about tactics used while you try to figure out what you believe was getting old. That said, the argument you make IS an answer, and I appreciate you addressing posts...

Did the NT writers have it all wrong?

#42 and #43 and #37 I think we've made our points GW. And I've given you an answer to every question you have asked, including your most recent one (in #42 and #43). Just because you don't like the answer, doesn't mean you need to ask the question again hoping that I'll give you the answer...

Did the NT writers have it all wrong?

GW, I have answered all your relevant questions. I cannot make myself more clear on my views on Hymanaeus and Paul's dispute with his teachings. After 3 or 4 detailed post on this issue, your questions indicate your thorough lack of understanding of my points. #37, #42, #43

Did the NT writers have it all wrong?

Just think through this a minute. Let me see if I can make this more clear for you...Hymenaeus believed the resurrection of the dead had already occurred spiritually. There are two aspects to this statement, both timing and nature. The timing was irrelevant to Paul as he was only concerned...

Did the NT writers have it all wrong?

GW, Feel free to give your own analysis of 1 Cor. 15:54-56 if you think it will somehow overcome the objections I have presented. I see no need to provide commentary on this particular passage (again, to use your own word "a verse by verse interpretation...is for another thread"). This is the...

Did the NT writers have it all wrong?

GW, On a final note, I wasn't lying when I said earlier that I agree with you on many points regarding the destruction of the temple in AD 70 and this being prophesied by Jesus and the NT writers. I believe the futurists position is severely flawed and just does not make sense on many levels...

Did the NT writers have it all wrong?

I'm not sure what the purpose of getting into a discussion of 1 Cor. 15:54-56 is. If you have a point to make with that passage, please do so, but as you have said before, that is a discussion for another time and another place. Hard to know? Did you read 2 Timothy 2:18? How would it be hard...

Did the NT writers have it all wrong?

On a side note...why would it matter if Hymenaeus believed that the resurrection had already occured? Why would this destroy the faith of some? He would have just been saying that the transition had occured already and that the dead were already in heaven and that we would follow when we die. He...

Did the NT writers have it all wrong?

Let me help you out: 2 Timothy 17Their teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, 18who have wandered away from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place, and they destroy the faith of some. You can only surmise that Hymenaeus...

Did the NT writers have it all wrong?

I think it would be helpful for you to reference what you believe Hymenaus believed concerning the resurrection and why Paul was refuting these ideas in 1 Cor. 15 when you respond to my question.

Did the NT writers have it all wrong?

Please turn in your hymnals to post number 16 and let's see how you responded when you thought I was avoiding one of your questions by asking my own. I digress.

Did the NT writers have it all wrong?

GW, I find we agree on many issues. One being that the predictions made by Jesus and the NT writers were quite impressive, perhaps and probably most likely divine. However, you have presented an answer for this particular passage which cannot escape the inproper assumption that Paul is not...

Did the NT writers have it all wrong?

:) I see how it is. Get a guy to give just a little and stop the conversation short while your ahead. Nice. My point is that it's possible to believe as you do about this particular Scripture, but that the belief itself throws into question too many other details that don't make sense. Even...

Did the NT writers have it all wrong?

BW: What the writers believed or understood is irrelevant. The scriptures themselves plainly state that its writers sometimes did not understand what they were writing. DQ: This logic makes no sense whatsoever. When a person makes a specific reference to a time period, this is extremely...

Did the NT writers have it all wrong?

And you have done a solid job GW. You still seem to assume that since I am questioning your premise with this particular passage that I don't understand your OT reference points. I DO! And I now see through some of your explanation that it could be possible to view this particular passage in...
