  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

University of Dallas vs. Catholic University of America

I am not sure about the DC school, but I have heard many great things about the University of Dallas. It was one of my choices, but I ended up in Kansas at Benedictine College which is a great, conservative school. At one time, they were very liberal from what I hear, but the students wanted...

    Excessive sweating

I was wondering if there was something that helps to relieve excessive sweating. I have something known as hyperhidrosis which is sweating of the hands, feet, underarms, and other body parts. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. This is a very embarassing problem  , and I...

Advice from Those Who Have Been There and Done That

I guess my purpose in doing this is to lose about 25-35 pounds. It has always been hard for me because I am in college. I don't have my own kitchen yet, but I will next year because I'll be living in a house. Plus, I still spend quite a bit of time at home, and my mom loves to bake and cook...

    Toni Morrison's The Bluest Eye

I agree...I had to read it for class. I really wished at the time that I could hurl it out the window. Another book that gave me the same feeling was House of Spirits or something like that. I'm taking a 20th Century British Lit class now, and a lot of that literature is the same way. I have a...

    PM buddy?

I might be a little older than you, but I would love to be your pen pal. I like a lot of things you do from what I see. I'm addicted to the site also. Jeremy Camp is one of my favorite Christian singers. I like to go fishing and camping when I get the chance. I wish I could play the piano. I...

The Classics (ie. Jane Austen, Charlotte Bronte, etc)

I agree with jesusfreak. The Phantom of the Opera was great!

    Da Vinci Code

I know...I understood what you meant...It's just that I thought that the Church made it clear that it was a bad thing and that they have ways for you to defend it without having to read the book. If it was a matter of defending your faith, I would think that just reading the book and criticisms...

    Da Vinci Code

And who are you to tell me anything about my faith? As a fellow Catholic, I believed I was doing the right thing in telling you what the Church teaches. Well here's something...if you know pot is bad for you and your family tells you it's a bad thing, are you going to try it so that you aren't...

    Da Vinci Code

So who's to say he didn't steal ideas. Isn't he in a lawsuit now for that?

    Da Vinci Code

And it's not a fear about ignorant people believing a work of poorly written fiction; rather, it's an offesiveness that we as Christians have experienced from the pack of lies that Brown has woven.

    Da Vinci Code

Believe me there are people that believe it. Why are they bringing up some lie that came out of the book that Jesus had children with Mary Magdelene. There are numerous other lies as well that are in the book that will definitely make Christians question their faith. One of those being Opus Dei...

The Classics (ie. Jane Austen, Charlotte Bronte, etc)

Dickens and Wilde are a couple of good ones, but I think they came later than the Bronte sisters and Austin. Oh...I forgot my favorite. Louisa May Alcott...Little Women is my all time favorite. Little Men was good too. I liked Little Women because it reminded me a lot of my family. I have 3...
