  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How do we know that the Bible is the "True" Word of God?

I love this topic of faith! It's so interesting isn't it? You've described my understanding of it as well. We are asked to believe based on what? Only witnesses from the Bible, right? Not anything truly empirical. But that's enough isn't it? A witness from the Holy Ghost is a powerful one, an...

How do we know that the Bible is the "True" Word of God?

May I ask a sincere clarifying question? Yes, as the story goes, those "evidences" were shone to Moses and Gideon, but they weren't shown directly to us. We are asked to take their word for it. Those prophets witnessed of what happened by writing it down for us. My understanding of "empirical"...

How do we know that the Bible is the "True" Word of God?

I like your thinking. So, I assume you've felt the spirit when you read the bible? I'd love to hear more of your story about that!

How do we know that the Bible is the "True" Word of God?

Agreed. How does one know it's the spirit? I'd like to hear your answer? And if the spirit really is a thing, why do we feel it when we read the bible?

A Hello and Salute from a Latter-Day Saint

Can you tell me about Orthodox Christian? What makes them different/unique?

A Hello and Salute from a Latter-Day Saint

Thanks for asking! We don't prefer being called Mormon because that was simply the name of an ancient prophet in the Book of Mormon. We would rather be called "Latter-Day Saints" or "members of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints". But we understand the need for shorter nicknames, so...

A Hello and Salute from a Latter-Day Saint

A Hello and Salute from a Latter-Day Saint

Thank you! May I ask, how did you come to know the Lord, or in other words, how did you gain a testimony of His reality? I love hearing people's stories!

How do we know that the Bible is the "True" Word of God?

Well said! We need something to base our faith off after all right? Otherwise it would be truly blind faith.

How do we know that the Bible is the "True" Word of God?

I've seen many kinds of answers posted here to your question: because the theology is more compassionate, because the doctrines are better than the others, because it stands the test of time, because it has garnered a large population against great odds, because it has withstood a certain degree...

How do we know that the Bible is the "True" Word of God?

Is it really that complicated? Isn't it by the witness of the Holy Ghost that a person can know?

How do we know that the Bible is the "True" Word of God?

Thanks for your post! I really resonated with this. I agree that the bible is big and complicated and ancient, and it's very hard to know if it's true on its face, even when taking in all the interesting history surrounding the book and all the good fruits that have come from it. But how can one...

A Hello and Salute from a Latter-Day Saint

Shout out to everyone here who is genuinely seeking for or feels they have found a relationship with the living Christ! I salute and celebrate with you. Glory to his name! I've received many witnesses through the holy spirit that the Bible is true. That same spirit of love, humility, light, and...
