  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do you think it's Christian to own guns?

So, are you saying that Christians who follow their faith are wrong in owning firearms? Or just wrong for using firearms?

Do you think it's Christian to own guns?

This is not about the Torah, the Koran or any other holy book. I didn't ask a difficult question, and neither did the OP, but you are avoiding the question I asked anyway. Your response seems to indicate that those who commit suicide are lawless. That means that suicide by firearm occurs...

Do you think it's Christian to own guns?

How so? "Hostilities began on April 12, 1861, when Confederate forces fired upon Fort Sumter." "The war began when the Confederates bombarded Union soldiers at Fort Sumter, South Carolina on April 12, 1861." The Confederates started the war. They attacked US soldiers manning a US fort.

Do you think it's Christian to own guns?

How does one know if he/she is confident in his/her faith? How does one know if other family members are confident in their faith? What does that look like? Is it just a feeling?

Do you think it's Christian to own guns?

Let me clarify as I wasn't asking if you acknowledged that suicide is a sin. My intention was to ask if you were okay with people committing suicide, meaning the planning of it and the method they choose. Once suicide occurs, there's nothing to do. However, helping to prevent suicides is quite...

Do you think it's Christian to own guns?

I had the number of registered voters in 2014 in Philadelphia County and I was going to post it, but I was also going to post the number of registered voters for each prior election. However, it appears the webmaster moved the data to another folder and the links were dead. Instead, I used the...

Do you think it's Christian to own guns?

How is the data inconclusive? The correlation is high. Is this situation not worthy of further discussion or research? So, guns are not readily available in Anchorage, Alaska? "The US state of Alaska has very permissive gun laws, and very few regulations regarding the sale, possession, and use...

Do you think it's Christian to own guns?

Yes, I saw that, and I knew that already. As a Christian, are you okay with people choosing to commit suicide? Do you also acknowledge that some of those suicides occurred after someone else shot the rest of their family at the same time? Is this not also a concern?

Do you think it's Christian to own guns?

How does one determine quickly whether the a person is innocent or guilty? Even if the person is not innocent but yet guilty, are you supporting vigilantism? To each his own. I grew up in a rural area and my father had a rifle for hunting, but not a handgun. The rifle was only used for deer...

Do you think it's Christian to own guns?

I don't see how this is possible. You have either misstated the issue or confused it with something else. Philadelphia County is coterminous with the City of Philadelphia, so election results for the county are the same election results for the city. The population of Philadelphia County...

Do you think it's Christian to own guns?

And you used the gun for its sole purpose -- to kill. A gun can be used as a tool in war, also -- to kill. You chose an animal over a human. The purpose was still the same. A sword can be used to cut things that aren't human or animal. It can be used to cut vegetation, ropes, glass, act as a...

Do you think it's Christian to own guns?

If you are a 50 year old white male living in Virginia, no, probably not. If you are black and living under a constant eye, yeah, it is. I'm white, 50, and for my entire life I have cringed every time I see that flag. That flag was used to fight a war to maintain slavery. It's just that simple.

Yes, debt is a huge problem these days. Has been for a long time, really. While the idea of debt is in the bible, the exorbitant interest and fees that people pay are not. A community credit union is socialist banking -- the members help each other and it keeps the costs lower. A significant...

But in the bible he also doesn't bless us with a lot of other modern things we have: cars, electricity, running water, septic ... or the internet ... If we didn't interact with things that weren't listed in the bible, you and I wouldn't be having this conversation. The bible can also be...

Do you think it's Christian to own guns?

Honestly, sounds like that preacher wants more money in his pocket. I guess if you like that kind of challenge, then more power to you. Personally, I wouldn't want to go through something like that. I'm sorry that you feel that insurance companies only want to line their own pockets. I have...
