  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

What would the Orthodox response to this be?

I haven't watched the vid yet but based on the conversation I have read: If someone is presented with the the gospel and rejects it, they reject Christ. The destiny of one who continues to reject Christ is hell. Now in the case of Todd Friel, I completely reject his 'Gospel'... so am I...

    "Adaptations" and other "givens"

While we have never directly observed something as drastic as an organism developing a shell, haven't we observed other adaptations? for example: Peppered moth evolution - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The idea that the turtle developed a shell is fascinating to me and points to a...

That's just a challenge... lovingly disagree, put on your man britches, and go to Church. Even if you only think you can go to Vespers on Sat... Do what you know is right and don't take dictates/ultimatums.

Does He preach Christ crucified? Does he call people to live holy lives? If so, encourage her in those things and help her understand the others... The great thing about being a Protestant is you can believe pretty much anything you want. I was Orthodox in my beliefs long before I left to join...

I don't know you so I couldn't speculate on that but my own experience was somewhat trying on my wife. She was a trooper though and followed me into the Church. I was prepared to have a mixed faith family if that's what it took. I told her we would be going to DL on Sundays and could go to any...

Yea... that was my attitude toward anything liturgical when I was younger. You might mention that the liturgical movements are found in John's revelation of Heaven. So our best understanding of Heaven is that it's going to more of a formal affair.

If she threw down the 'god card' there isn't much point arguing. There is plenty of good advice in this thread in regard to loving her where she is and letting God work through that love. God willing, she will find what you are discovering in the church as well. Have you ever visited an EO...

If you think Baptists aren't saved... you need to rethink your position. I didn't leave my denomination (or lack thereof) because I thought it was a den of iniquity full of people going to hell... I was drawn to the fullness and beauty of the ancient faith.

I don't understand stopping someone from baptism... what would be the point?

What? No, you could never make a statement or judgement like that. God will give grace to whomever He pleases however He pleases. Communion is far more than who you drink grape juice with. The idea of open communion rose from the deconstruction of the sacraments in low protestant churches...

How did you come across Orthodoxy?

I was introduced to the Church by myspace of all places... they had a religion forum back in the mid 0's and I had conversations with people that seriously messed with my charismatic upbringing.

Seriously considering conversion - some questions

That one is easy... baptism isn't something you do, it is something that is done TO you. The ones who don't believe in infant baptism contend that it is something you do for God as a sign of obedience yet is pragmatically pointless because they hold no sacramental view of baptism. If, as the...
