  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Fair enough. Thank you for the information. That's very interesting.

Interesting indeed. My knowledge of genetics is very (very) limited, but it seems to me that the concept of conserved sequences is predicated on the assumption that some DNA is considered functionally useless - aka "junk" DNA. It also seems to me that if a function cannot be ascertained...

Stephen W. Schaeffer (Professor Emeritus of Biology) claims that the theory of common descent has proven useful in identifying so-called conserved sequences in human DNA (if "conserved", such sequences are understood to serve a functional purpose ... as opposed to so-called junk DNA, which is...

If no one is aware of any use for the theory of common descent in medical or biological research, it's a fair guess that none exist.

Please explain why it's a "contradictory statement".

That depends on what you mean by "the theory of evolution", for there are different interpretations of that term. If by "the theory of evolution" you mean the mechanisms of evolution (as your posts suggest), please be advised that I never claimed that the mechanisms of evolution (as listed in...

Please provide an example of how the theory that all life on earth descended from a common ancestor has proven useful in medical science.

"According to a 1998 survey of members of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), nearly 95% of NAS biologists identify themselves as either atheists or agnostics, a percentage of unbelief far higher than in any other scientific discipline ... Similarly, according to a 2003 Cornell survey of...

What I should have said is, all atheist scientists privately believe that the theory of evolution is the truth, but publicly they say they accept ToE as the best available scientific explanation.

Exactly. The theory of common descent is irrelevant and useless to medical research and every other form of applied science.

    Do germs cause disease?

    Icons of Evolution

Sure ... according to the theory of common descent ... which is irrelevant to the actual testing on animals. No disease was ever cured by a theory. Physical realities cure diseases, not explanations for why those realities exist.

So you're saying, in order for researchers to use animals for test drugs meant for humans, the researchers have to accept the theory that those animals and humans share a common ancestor. Fascinating. I disagree with your claim. I say it's the physical similarities between animals and...
