  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Diversity among Atheists?

I thought you were originally referring to the atheists you have been talking to and the "general history of atheism." And I don't think anything is signified by this "statistic" that you've "notice."

    The Achilles Heel of Atheism

Alright, I'll explain it to you. I'll try to make it as clear as possible because it seems you aren't comprehending certain elementary principles regarding atheism. That's fine. Sometimes they aren't clear. So let's start with the fundamental premise that is disputed in the atheist debate...

    The Achilles Heel of Atheism

I think it's important you understand that materialism and atheism are not the same thing. Someone can adopt non-material entities into their ontology and still be an atheist. Also, you need to understand what "objective" means when someone talks about objective morality. One can still...

    was there a pangea?

Yeah, the rock in the picture is very porous, so it looks light. Basalt doesn't have to be porous though. Depends on how long it took to cool.

    was there a pangea?

I bet you would know what basalt is if you saw a picture of it: mail.ab.mec.edu/~mdoiron/010B7EF2-000F6E99.2/basalt.jpg It looks like there is some olivine in that picture as well.

    was there a pangea?

Seems strange, doesn't it? But then we must realize we're talking about the continents floating on magma, not water. And granite is indeed less dense than basalt.

Cern scientists find 'tantalising' hints of Higgs boson

Haha. Man, I sure hope that isn't true.

Cern scientists find 'tantalising' hints of Higgs boson

Which physics journals are your reading that are arguing for the correct date of Jesus' birth?

    Atheism (2)

Logicians generally don't formally define arguments as either "good" or "bad". They use the terms "valid," "invalid," and "sound." If we are talking about valid arguments as "good" arguments, rules of inference and truth tables are your friend in determining what a good argument is. For...

    Atheism (2)

It's true. Usually an atheist isn't "mad at God," but rather they are upset at religious ideologies, truth based off of mere authority, and all of the ramifications that follow these things.

    about today's meat production

First let me be as explicit as possible: I never said that I subscribed to a vegetarian ethics. In fact, I do not. I am a meat eater. Nonetheless, I think that the ethics they believe in is admirable and interesting. Also, I realize this is a "christians only" sub-forum. I believe that the...

    about today's meat production

The majority of people who think it is immoral to eat meat do not base their ethics on "the right to life" as that is far too demanding, and in all respects nearly impossible to uphold. After all, if we submit to a morality where all living beings have a right to live, we would not be able to...

Why are some Christians so fake?

I'm curious as to how anyone is meant to answer this question. It seems like you are making generalizations and assumptions about the Christian lifestyle. It may be true that a majority of Christians in your life are hypocritical about their faith, but each instance of hypocrisy is unique to...

    Revisiting the Ontological Argument

Well, this is an interesting argument. I think it needs a little re-examining before you teach it to anyone though. To show why, let me restate your argument. I've added some hidden premises such as "It is greater to exist than to not exist" which I think you wanted to be derived from your...

    about today's meat production

I don't think you realize that a number of the cattle used in slaughter do not get to graze on green pastures. foodfreedomdotme.files.wordpress.com/2012/05/cow-factory.jpg indianapublicmedia.org/eartheats/files/2012/01/feedlot-cattle3-e1326331973440.jpg Regardless, you mention some good...
