  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Worth pursuing a final blessing from a dying abusive parent?

The Bible has examples of blessings and curses from Biblical patriarchs which carried prophetic weight. For example: 1. Isaac intended to bless Esau but was deceived by Jacob. Even a blessing under deceptive circumstances was irrevocable. 2. Jacob blessed his 12 sons, and also Joseph's sons...

Whether or not to disinherit your sibling's children (your nephews, nieces) after your sibling (their parents) did you wrong

I am in a similar position. I was falsely accused and wrongly convicted of crimes I did not do, and being convicted for such serious crimes scuppers one's employment and marriage prospects although I am still working on both. I have been kicked out of churches after I talk openly about my...

Advice about how a child should act with toxic parents

Dear all, thank you for your advice and empathy. It's been an exhausting half-of-the-weekend because I've been enduring complaints non-stop from my mum. I feel obliged to listen and help out as much as I can because it has become a vicious cycle: my mum complains so much no one helps her and...

Advice about how a child should act with toxic parents

Hey all, I'm looking for advice about how I deal with my parents. My dad is in his late 80s with cancer and my mum in her mid 80s. I'm posting this with great caution after not wanting to air my parents' dirty laundry in public (bearing in mind my understanding of Noah's Curse on Ham after Ham...

Noah & the Curse of Ham

Hey all, I had a question about how we should interpret these verses in Genesis 9: There has been and probably will be a lot of discussion on what exactly happened, but my interpretation of it is as follows: 1. The lack of detail itself should tell us something 2. Being drunk and naked are...

Feel really dark, stopped going to church, want to die every day

I didn't expect quid pro quo from the people I helped, but I expected some reward from God, because the Bible said so. It is not without precedent in the Bible. Jacob wrestled with an Angel (a theophany) because he wanted a blessing, and even connived with his mother to get his brother's...

Feel really dark, stopped going to church, want to die every day

Well at better times I would agree with you that we are righteous by faith, because that's what the Bible says. But me doing things that God promises to reward/bless and seeing no fruit of it makes me wonder if other parts of the Bible are true as well. And of late, I am all out of faith...

Feel really dark, stopped going to church, want to die every day

God promised to bless those who bless Abraham, or honor their parents, or that he who lends to the poor lends to God. These promises are contingent on the act, and not whether the doer is so holy as to deserve a reward.

Feel really dark, stopped going to church, want to die every day

After I made a bit of money when I had my own business and before my false conviction, I set up a charity helping widows in need. It was entirely self-funded; the church I went to knew about it and no one donated even $1. This was before the social media age of virtue signalling, my name didn't...

Feel really dark, stopped going to church, want to die every day

Dear CF, Please pray for me as I have no more strength to go on. Even my own mother gave up hope that there will be something good from my life. She recently told me I had never brought them good news, ever. And I looked back on my life and she is right. Been unemployed a lot, was falsely...

    Cursed by parents = Doomed?

Not so much fear as pursuing a blessing, like Jacob wrestling with The Angel (Jesus): "I will not let you go until you bless me."

    Cursed by parents = Doomed?

Thank you all for your advice, and Scripture. Ezekiel 18 and Numbers 23 were particularly helpful. After reading it, I felt a weight lift off my shoulders. A question though, if God does not punish children for the sins of the parents, what about David & Bathsheba's firstborn son? Or the...

    Cursed by parents = Doomed?

No, I am not living with them or dependent on them. I am a free person, trying to honor God's commandment to honor my parents so that things will be well with me. If it was my selfish choice I wouldn't want to see them again, but I keep going back and reliving the trauma and toxicity because God...

    Cursed by parents = Doomed?

I was trying to help my mum by telling her to try to speak about something positive for just 30 minutes. Because my parents always dwell on negative things, like how others have hurt them or mistreated them. It's very visible especially since we don't see each other very often, practically...

    Cursed by parents = Doomed?

Some of the people who judge my family and me the most are...Christians. The pain is worse when it happens from this quarter because it falls short of Jesus' example. Fortunately despite my trials and tribulations, two things have been relatively unscathed - my health and my finances. Last...
