  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The doctrine of Salvation by Sacraments is

Perhaps a good question to look at would be what is meant by "grace" and how does "grace" work with the sacraments.

    Faith requires an object

When talking about an author drawing a contrast from verses 19-28, are you talking about me and are you talking about Hebrews 10? I said that when looking at faith, you will find hope and love not far behind. Reread the passage. Both hope and love are mentioned. Have you read Colossians and I...

    Conversion Stories

I was a Lutheran studying to become a pastor. Due to bad experiences with my internship supervisor and another pastor after seminary, I not only left the seminary, I also left Lutheranism. In fact, one of these pastors told me that Lutheranism isn't for everyone and maybe I would be happier...

    Infant Baptism

It sounds to me that your practice is very consistent with the idea of being saved by grace. If we are saved by God's grace and the sacraments of initation are about receiving God's grace, why can't infants receive these sacraments?

    Faith requires an object

I think you are making sense and is the point that I think I was trying to make by stressing that faith must be active in love:) We can not isolate faith from hope and love. Faith is indeed the assurance of things hoped for. (Hebrews 11:1) Faith is indeed active in love. (Galatians 5:6) Faith is...

    Faith requires an object

Going back to my discussion with you, you have already admitted faith is not alone. I disagree with your comment that faith alone means only faith saves. This is a slip of the tongue you have already made. We are saved by the grace of God, not by faith. By saying we are saved by our faith...

    Faith requires an object

I think Mark Twain will be happy with your response:) However, I am talking about love, not works. The two are very different. When I have time I will explain.

    Infant Baptism, Communion and Confirmation

We are saved by the love of God and the sacraments are a physical means by which He proclaims His love for us. Many Churches that see Baptism as a sacrament will baptize infants for that reason. Why not give infants Confirmation and Communion as well? I believe this is the practice in the...

    Infant Baptism

Christianity is the greatest love story of all time. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him might not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through...

    Eucharist- how often?

"Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple area and to breaking bread in their homes." Acts 2:46a When should we take the Eucharist? Whenever we can. Masses are offered everyday. Some people are able to do so while the rest of us are living busy lives and can't. I...

    Faith requires an object

Is faith passive? I guess I am confused by the slogan faith alone, Christ alone and Scripture alone since I can not find this in the Bible. When I read the Bible, I see a faith active in love, Jesus Christ establishing a community of faith called the Church, and the Scriptures being...

The doctrine of Salvation by Sacraments is

The fact that we are saved by grace is not the issue. The issue is how does God's grace manifests itself to us and can it be done through sacraments. "How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one whom they have not heard? And how can they...
