  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    My family is now vaccinated!

Because I clearly don’t think it’s something to be celebrated? What exactly is wrong with what I’m “spewing”? Christians in particular need to wake up to what is going on in the world; proof-of-vaccination will soon be required to do virtually anything. Does nobody see anything wrong with that?

    My family is now vaccinated!

Sorry, but what makes you think it’s almost over? You really think a mere vaccine will cause things to go back to “normal”? There is no going back: https://www.cnbc.com/2020/08/21/who-warns-a-coronavirus-vaccine-alone-will-not-end-pandemic.html They call it the “new normal” for a reason; the...

Mainstream Christianity is wrong about Matthew 5:27-28 (the famous “lust” passage)

I’m taking a break from this thread; spending too much time on it. I will reply more later; sorry! Hope everyone has a blessed Sunday.

Mainstream Christianity is wrong about Matthew 5:27-28 (the famous “lust” passage)

Just because a woman is someone’s daughter does not mean she is not to be sexually desired by anyone… It is a universally understood thing that God made women to be desirable to men; I mean, do you think that all the godly fathers in the Bible who gave away their daughters in marriage would have...

Mainstream Christianity is wrong about Matthew 5:27-28 (the famous “lust” passage)

Hi, thanks for your comment. I just wanted to mention regarding this passage: I wondered about the same thing, but I think that’s probably us looking at the text through modern eyes (just the way the word “lust” is now seen as an entirely sexual word - but it actually wasn’t, when the verse was...

Mainstream Christianity is wrong about Matthew 5:27-28 (the famous “lust” passage)

Sorry! Realized I didn’t respond to this. I guess I can see where you are coming from Re: the roller coaster analogy; again though, I would argue that part of your objection to it is culturally rooted, how modern Christianity has demonized/misrepresented male sexuality so you view it in a...

Mainstream Christianity is wrong about Matthew 5:27-28 (the famous “lust” passage)

Sorry, I have been trying to catch up on everything. (A lot of comments to go through!) I think I have addressed what you speak of…? Not sure, sorry. As for the “made for men” comment: Well, it is biblically true, no? Should we ignore parts of the Bible that hurt our modern, culturally...

Mainstream Christianity is wrong about Matthew 5:27-28 (the famous “lust” passage)

Give this a read and tell me what you think: Why does the Church have such a negative view of male sexuality? Can’t really argue with you there. I desperately want to fall in love with the woman God intends for me. I can see what you mean - and as Christians I’m sure we would agree we are...

Mainstream Christianity is wrong about Matthew 5:27-28 (the famous “lust” passage)

What is “the true Bible”? Honestly, I’m not sure what you’re getting at in much of your comment, just a lot of “etc."

Mainstream Christianity is wrong about Matthew 5:27-28 (the famous “lust” passage)

Huh? It’s biblically false that anything that will not be going on in heaven is a sin. There’s no marriage in heaven… Is marriage a sin? Uh, no, that’s actually not it at all. I spent my entire life raised to believe Matthew 5 referred to “fantasizing.” It wasn’t even until I came across one...

Mainstream Christianity is wrong about Matthew 5:27-28 (the famous “lust” passage)

I don’t even know where to begin with this. This “objectify” talk which modern Christians engage in isn’t even biblical, and sounds more like feminism tbh. Why does the Church have such a negative view of male sexuality? You are so hung up on this “selfish” thing when it comes to sexual...

Mainstream Christianity is wrong about Matthew 5:27-28 (the famous “lust” passage)

Where does it say that? I agree that we should depart from iniquity, but the Bible does not say that simply imagining sexual relations for a few minutes, is a sin. Shouldn’t the Bible tell us plainly that it is evil and wrong, if it is? This is not something new under the sun; people have...

Mainstream Christianity is wrong about Matthew 5:27-28 (the famous “lust” passage)

Obviously this is correct. But you are operating under the assumption that something is a sin. A few minutes of imagining sex is an “adulterous thought”? Where does the Bible say that? First off, wouldn’t the thought have to be about a married individual (or for the thinker to be married) to...

Mainstream Christianity is wrong about Matthew 5:27-28 (the famous “lust” passage)

So is enjoying (or thinking about enjoying) our 5 senses in other ways, also sinful? Or is it just a few minutes of thinking about sex?

Mainstream Christianity is wrong about Matthew 5:27-28 (the famous “lust” passage)

In our modern understanding of the word, lust is apparently any and all fantasizing about sex. Huh? Sorry, I still don’t think you’re understanding my argument. Of course the man in question wanted sex. Where did I ever imply he didn’t? I think it meant exactly what the Scripture says it...
