  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

the Thief on the cross is a perfect picture of salvation, the simplicity that is in Christ

Read Romans 6:1-14. Baptism is defined as "crucified with him (Christ)". Paul later says in Galatians 2:20-21, "I have been CRUCIFIED WITH CHRIST and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for...

the Thief on the cross is a perfect picture of salvation, the simplicity that is in Christ

    1. There is only one baptism that pertains to us, baptism in water and of the Spirit. This is the singular baptism taught post ascension, and irrefutably involves water as we see most notably in 1 Peter 3:21 and Phillip's conversion of the eunuch. 2. There is a difference between the...

the Thief on the cross is a perfect picture of salvation, the simplicity that is in Christ

There were none that put it off because they understood the necessity and urgency. Every single conversion account involves the converted being baptized in water immediately.

the Thief on the cross is a perfect picture of salvation, the simplicity that is in Christ

Doctrine and truth is not based on a hypothetical situation you can imagine up. Scripture teaches the necessity of water baptism for salvation, and I will continue to teach such and let God deal with any exceptions should there ever be one.

the Thief on the cross is a perfect picture of salvation, the simplicity that is in Christ

There exists no division between the water and Spirit. Jesus did not divide the two and neither can you. There is but one baptism (Ephesians 4:5); the same baptism Jesus was baptized with in water and of Spirit (Mark 10:39). Thomas Helwys, the founder of the Baptist church, had this to say...

the Thief on the cross is a perfect picture of salvation, the simplicity that is in Christ

The early church understood "belief" and "be baptized" to mean the exact same thing because a true belief involved the converted being baptized immediately or ASAP without exception. To say "when you believed" meant the exact same thing as "when you were baptized" to the early church and the...

the Thief on the cross is a perfect picture of salvation, the simplicity that is in Christ

Yes, salvation is by faith. However, you have to be careful to not classify the answer to the question of "what must we do to be saved" as works (repent and be baptized).

the Thief on the cross is a perfect picture of salvation, the simplicity that is in Christ

He's adding "alone". Salvation is by faith, but faith is never complete without the obedience of faith. "Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was...

the Thief on the cross is a perfect picture of salvation, the simplicity that is in Christ

Many wrongly try to divide the water of baptism and the Spirit. This is a very modern concept. To deny the singular baptism, a baptism in water and of Spirit, you must contort the work of what God does for/to us "through baptism" to be a work of our own doing and power. The Bible directly...

    Modern Calvinism and predestination

"As certain as if it had already happened" This places God in the realm of time. He is (for the lack of being able to conceptualize eternity) as present at the back of eternity as He is the front of eternity and every moment in-between. Even if God chooses one at their moment of...
