  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

No longer a Christian? Why not?

Born of Irish stock and heavily influenced by the Catholic Church from as far back as I can remember, I think it all started being a bit unbelievable at around the age of twelve. I still identified as a Catholic well into my twenties but never really gave it a moments consideration. As I grew...

Why are there so many atheists on a Christian site?

I've never been comfortable with that expression. It's not a rejection of an individual, it's a disbelief in the truth of the ideology. Moreover, and whilst I haven't bothered to actually research this, I would speculate that the lion's share of atheists came from a background of theism. Upon...

Why are there so many atheists on a Christian site?

You're trying to make magic or the supernatural relative. It's not.

Why are there so many atheists on a Christian site?

No, it's fine. Supernatural is, by definition, unbelievable. Every mystery ever solved turned out to not be magic. In fairness, if you could prove the supernatural it would cease to be supernatural and just be natural, but then resurrection wouldn't be unbelievable, would it? Regarding the...

Why are there so many atheists on a Christian site?

Resurrection isn't supernatural enough for me to find it unbelievable?

Why are there so many atheists on a Christian site?

Well, it's a pretty long list. You could start at the Book of Genesis, but of course there's the main tenets of the belief system too; virgin birth and resurrection. I'm really not looking to discuss or debate it with you, but they're some of the more glaringly obvious ones that come to mind.

Why are there so many atheists on a Christian site?

Personally, I'm genuinely curious as to why people continue to believe what is from an objective standing, unbelievable. I'm not just referring to Christianity either; subjects like Climate Change, Evolution, basically any belief that goes against current and well established scientific...

    The Division of faiths

It's fair to say that the examples you've given have never crossed my path due to their relative obscurity. I don't know, perhaps you were trying to babble me with bulldust; it happens a lot. You'll have to excuse me as I stick to the dominant groups; I'm fairly sure you wouldn't like me...

    Where do Christians stand?

My response was to the absurd account that the Bible is fact. I was trying to show that what might be a fact to you, may not be a fact to someone else. Since I'm forced to explain myself I guess I missed the mark. Moreover, to call the Bible fact and then use Islamists as an example of people...

    Where do Christians stand?

Of course I have; it's the basis of the scientific method.

    Where do Christians stand?

Irrelevant. I wasn't making an argument. It was a statement of fact. I accept it. The scientific method demands scientists do the same.

    Where do Christians stand?

My statement is not fallacy. The fact I share that opinion has little to do with the fact that more people on this planet think the Bible is fantasy than those who don't. Now that's a fact. It's amusing that you are happy to indulge scientific evidence when it suits you, but not when it doesn't.

    Where do Christians stand?

Because the Bible is horribly flawed in many people's opinion.

    The Division of faiths

That had occurred to me, actually. The thing is, the substance of science, that which is physical evidence, would still remain. Even if all information was lost, eventually it would be rediscovered.
