  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Has anyone mentioned this argument?

    1. The universe is explained by the existence of an infinitely complex being. 2. Occum's Razor implies that simpler explanations are more like to be true than complex explanations. 3. Any other explanation, no matter how complex or how unlikely, is simpler that infinitely complexity. 4...

The difference between man and animal?

WRONG! I'm actually suggesting the complete opposite. Nobody's equal. To hell with the animals. I'm going to answer the question I asked at the start of this thread. The only meaningful difference between humans and animals is that we're smarter than they are. And intelligence isn't handed out...

The difference between man and animal?

This is exactly why I said humans as a species, I already took that into account. The NORM OF THE HUMAN SPECIES is indicative of those two abilities. We are capable of these things. It doesn't do any good to talk about the Norm of a species. Norms can change. Suppose some calamity happened...

    The definition of a species

Now until anyone shows us that an ape and a man can mate & produce offspring together, then they cannot be the same species and the theory of evolution is impossible. I would like to point out that testing this would involve screwing a chimpanzee. Anyone looking to take one for the team?

    Do scientists have the answer?

Quite right. If my friend claimed he saw someone die and raise from the dead I would be skeptical. But if several hundred people gave a corroborative testimony that they saw a dragon fly overhead, in the same general area at the same general time, I would be less skeptical, wouldn't you? And...

Ok, thanks for clearing that up.

    Do scientists have the answer?

Here is how testimonial evidence works. You have to consider both the reliability of the source, and the independent likelihood of the claim. For instance, if your friend said they ate lunch at Taco Bell, you'd probably believe them. If they said they saw a dragon fly by while they ate...

If DNA can mutate randomly, which it does because it's not a completely stable molecule, why can't it become more complex?

The difference between man and animal?

None of those things anyone has pointed out as differences are universally human, or exclusively human. Not everything animals do is instinct. Dogs don't instinctively know of to roll over on command, play dead, etc. They have to be taught. Likewise humans do have instincts. Think about...

The difference between man and animal?

Not all humans have the ability for concious thought and self awarness. Think of the severely retarded, or brain dead, or new born babies, or embyros. Furthermore, it's hard to prove some animals don't have those abilities. Some apes have been taught sign language, refer to themselves as...

The difference between man and animal?

How do Christains define the difference between man and animal? Where exactly do you draw the line? What if something like Neanderthal Man or Homo Erectus were still alive today? Where would they fit into the moral spectrum? Or if you don't believe in evolution, or that Neanderthal ever...
