  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Can Pastors Live Too Extravagantly?

This is the crux of the issue I think. On the one hand you could have full-time career pastors who are trying to provide for their families in some other way. If you force the pastor to take up a second career (or force his wife to work several jobs to make ends meet), you risk burn-out, a...

Can you help me on this Visual Ministry customer survey?

Who is the customer, exactly? I'm not usually a big fan of using business models to advance the church. Nothing can replace the power of real relationships to change lives. bb

    Online Church

I think it is a bad idea. I work as a teacher for a virtual high school, so I know there are tons of resources and possibilities for virtual communities. There are many different options for communication in that setting, unlimited access to learning resources, even the possibility of...

    Obama for President 2008

Yay! With all this momentum and excitement, its easy to get swept up. :) My hope is in Jesus...but I'm sure glad he made Obama.

Cyber Evangelism - Ugh... Second life?

My husband had a few conversations on faith with other online players when he was playing World of Warcraft. In some ways, it is easier to form communities with people (though they may not be as deep), and people have less fear about opening up to talk about personal issues. But with the total...

"Women will be saved through childbearing"?!

My understanding of the "women will be saved through childbearing" passage is that it points to the salvation of Christ. After all, childbearing was the means through which the incarnation took place. Thus, through the lineage of Christ up to Mary, God used childbirth to bring his Son into the...

    House Church Ideas

Cool. I'll be praying for you and your house group. I'm sure it will be a long and challenging process for all of you, but there is a great need for it. What a wonderful thing to be part of the restoration of God's kingdom! Sorry for jumping to the wrong conclusions <smiles sheepishly>...

    What does God look for?

Micah 6:8 "He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."

    the emerging church...

Okay, I just found this really great article linked somewhere else on CF about the emergent church. Even though it appears that this thread has died, :( I'll go ahead and put it up anyway. http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2007/february/11.35.html bb

    House Church Ideas

Please be careful of your pride, Sleaker. Yes, the church is quite imperfect, but the majority of people who regularly attend church really are seeking God (also imperfectly, of course). People in churches do learn to understand scripture, do develop virtue, do engage in mission, do learn to...

    House Church Ideas

Hmm...I think you might be setting yourselves up to be the enemies of those churches' leadership. You may be perceived as people trying to bring division -- and maybe you would bring division. Anyway, isn't it better to seek and serve the lost? bb

How can you survive more than one pregnancy loss?

Cassandra, I'm so sorry to hear about your lost little ones. I miscarried twice as well (both at three months), and it was devastating. Even though it has now been over two years since my first miscarriage, I still cry over those lost babies from time to time. Fortunately for me, I found a...
