  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Some contend against Blessed Mary

Ultimately, we have precious few facts to work from. The net result has been a very intricate biography based primarily upon theological speculation.

Anyone have good arguments against Calvinism.

You are correct that one can easily reach for a reason concerning God's character in the atonement of Jesus Christ. On one hand one can conclude that God chooses particular individuals to benefit from His grace. We certainly see that when God eradicated all of humanity except for eight...

Anyone have good arguments against Calvinism.

Precisely what is the point in discussing the extent of Christ's atonement if, as we agree, it is no benefit whatsoever to unbelievers, but to believers only?

The Reconquista of Mainline Protestant Churches

Yes, I know that, which is why I did not mention it. Thank you for mentioning it, though. The PCA congregations seem to be more uniform than most of the churches in the other spinoffs, IMO.

The Reconquista of Mainline Protestant Churches

I agree. What has surprised me is the relative amount of diversity in these smaller conservative churches. These denominations seem to be in a formative stage such that there are frequently no denominational seminaries, as in the cases of the EPC or the ECO, which can train pastors in some of...

The Reconquista of Mainline Protestant Churches

In my experience with conservative spinoffs from the PCUSA, it is the PCUSA that has been abandoning its historic roots and traditions. My childhood church, Westminster, recently decided to go generic and rebrand itself as Bread of Life Church. Locally, where I live now four failing PCUSA...

The Reconquista of Mainline Protestant Churches

I agree with you. It seems that most conservative mainline folks are within driving distance of a conservative version. For me, it depends which version happened to be available. I don't have major issues with any of the varieties of conservative Presbyterians. The option I had here in the...

It is, however, a moot point entirely to endlessly debate the extent of the atonement of Jesus Christ since we agree that it effective only for believers and is of no effect at all for unbelievers.

Thank you for confirming my thoughts. It is a completely moot point to assert that the atonement is universal or particular when there is not the slightest indication of any efficacy of it for unbelievers.
