  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Spanish, Hispanic, and Filipino Advent Traditions

Two Advent traditions not mentioned in that article are the Advent Wreath and the Jesse Tree. Every year since we got married, my wife and I have marked the time leading up to Christmas with an Advent wreath. Although it's a bit late to start one this year, here is a great article that...

“Useless” hobbies may be vital for your health and holiness

I've been fortunate to have two hobbies that truly enriched my life. I began making music for fun in the 60s, then played for church services in the 70s, and added gigging in bars and clubs in the 90s and early 2000s. While I haven't played for pay since about 2006, I still play for Mass 3...

Skillet’s ‘O Come, O Come Emmanuel’ Hits No. 1 on 5 Billboard Charts Despite ‘Demonic’ Criticism

Here, too. I don't particularly enjoy the flashing lights towards the end, but I sure wouldn't call it demonic. ============ Lady: Are you the police? Elwood Blues: No, ma'am, we're musicians ... We're on a mission from God.

Hymn "O Come O Come Emmanuel"

It is one of my favorites, too. My parish is using it as the Communion Hymn for all 4 Sundays. We're also singing the Missa Emmanuel Holy, Holy, Memorial Acclamation, Amen, and Lamb of God. The instrumental accompaniment at the Mass at which I serve is piano, trumpet, acoustic guitar, and...

    Bring Joy

That article really struck a chord with me. I take it as an exhortation to let our whole selves respond to the whole truth of God. There are many aspects to reverence, from a time to prostrate ourselves, overwhelmed by His holiness, to a time to dance and sing, overwhelmed by His goodness...

This Chicago Mass Explains Why So Many Want The TLM!

I agree. The photo montage of dancers near the top of the southernorderspage.blogspot.com page obviously did not come from the Kids Mass at Holy Family Parish. I am more aligned with big benny's comments in the blog: and ============== Lady: Are you the police? Elwood Blues: No, ma'am...

    The Dominican and the Jazzman

Thank you for posting this. I didn't know Brubeck composed a Mass. Here is a link to all the parts from his Choral Mass, To Hope. It's an interesting listen and not what I would have expected considering his secular work. =========== Lady: Are you the police? Elwood Blues: No, ma'am, we're...

    It’s officially Autumn

One more note about these harbingers of autumn. The Sandhill cranes I see during migration around here are normally real skittish. They're up and away if you approach within about 100 feet. The Sandhills I see in Florida, the permanent residents, seem to totally ignore people. They almost...

    It’s officially Autumn

We've noticed some of these guys starting their trip south a few weeks early. I wonder if the early flights signal an early winter. The flocks usually start in October and peak in late November. (Photo taken in Jasper County, IN., mid-October a few years back. As many as 30,000 Sandhill...
