  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    WTC plan

Nobody's doubting that he is uniquely qualified to design this building. But that doesn't make it a good one by default. I preferred that other tentative design which looked like a rocket. That one had some real imagination behind it. This other thing looks like Bauhaus on steroids. :P

What's mine is mine and what's yours is mine: Refugees

I don't have time to address all of this tonight, as I've been preoccupied with debates at another forum. It will have to wait until tomorrow. But there's a couple of points I'd like to leave you with: You haven't shown me any reason for doubting the legitimacy of the Jewish claim to...

USF professor Sami Al-Arian Arrested on Terror Charges

This is a good topic. A a subscriber to his mailing list, I'd like to throw in Daniel Pipes' analysis: Daniel Pipes New York Post February 24, 2003 http://www.danielpipes.org/article/1032 http://www.nypost.com/postopinion/opedcolumnists/31017.htm "It was quiet in [Cooper Hall] 464...

    Look out!!!

I'm quite happy to tone things down a little, TheBear. It would be nice if others would make an effort to do the same. This means no more labelling and insult-hurling. If I can handle it, why can't others?

    WTC plan

This design has absolutely no redeeming features at all. What is it trying to say? Where is its aesthetic appeal? Are people honestly expected to pay money for this thing?

What's mine is mine and what's yours is mine: Refugees

Hello Allen2. :) Thankyou and you're welcome. :) No, I wouldn't be surprised at all. I've been the recipient of it myself in times past. I know the drill. ;) I certainly hope so. OK Because Britain was in possession of a valid mandate at that time, a fact recognised by...

    some good news

I was homeschooled from the age of 3 (which is when I learned to read) until the age of 5 (which is when I learned to play chess.) From the ages of 5-8 I attended a Montessori school, which I absolutely loved. :) My mother homeschooled me for a while when we moved interstate, and...

    Economics and the Iraq War

Good old Bulgaria! :) I can see it now... the Marines invade Iraq and broadcast their first announcement over national radio: "Citizens of Iraq, lay down your arms. Resistance is futile. Bulgaria is poised to strike...!" ;)

The reason I now support war

Continuing my response to Zoe: In the latter section of your post, you provide evidence that these people are definitely anti-Bush, so that's fine and I accept that they are. But believe it or not, some people will do what they have done even when they don't really hate the person who's...

The reason I now support war

Finally, some clarification! Great. Now we know what you mean. Thankyou. Celebrities are not exactly known for their superior knowledge of global politics. ;) Although I'm curious to know how you define "saying very anti-America things." Fine. Would you like to talk about the...

    War is inevitable: my thoughts

Yes, but the relationship obviously soured at least 12 years ago, so there's been at least a decade for somebody to do something about it. That's the point I am making. I think it's fair to assume that any intelligence agency worth its salt would not be stymied by the use of a few doubles...

    War is inevitable: my thoughts

Good question: I don't know. But I do know that it certainly hasn't taken a back seat with me. I've openly advocated the assasination of Hussein as a perfectly viable alternative to the war. In fact, I'm simply puzzled that it was never attempted in the 12 years which followed Desert...

    War is inevitable: my thoughts

I'm curious to know. When will Israel be the issue at hand? I mean, it's all very well to say "She's not the issue at hand", but her human rights violations are stacking up, and so are her breaches of UN resolutions. We do ourselves no favours by ignoring the issue. As an avid supporter...

    War is inevitable: my thoughts

Judging from the comments I've received lately, the answer to that question is a resounding "No."
