What Popes Did Saint Thomas More Die For?

I don't stop by often these days, but since things in the Church have been so much worse this year (or at least, we have been hearing more this year) I drop in to read every so often. Davidnic, thank you for posting this article. It was very helpful. I've always loved St Thomas More, but never...

    Lent

Sayre, the rules for Latin Rite Catholics are very simple because we have been set the minimum required practice. Anything you do above minimum is great and should be decided with your confessor, pastor or spiritual director. Latin Rite Catholics FAST (ie eat one meal and two half meals -no...

    Please help really confused

What kind of answers do you need OP? There are plenty of testimonies out there like this of conversions to pentecostal churches. The one thing that these testimonies tend to have in common is a lack of knowledge of Catholic beliefs and practices. It's always a good thing when someone begins to...

    Please help really confused

It seems likely she had been baptised as an infant and that when she says she knew water baptism wasn't possible she actually means she knew a second baptism wasn't possible. Catholics believe you can only be baptised once.

‘Gay patient says Catholic chaplain refused him last rites’

I agree with you. I am not particularly suspicious about the event, or about the patient. But it's very convenient for the press that homosexuality was brought up at all and I wonder if this would be a story at all if the patient had been a remarried Catholic man.

‘Gay patient says Catholic chaplain refused him last rites’

I know that there are many difficulties which come with homosexuality when you're Catholic. But in the circumstances described in the OP homosexuality doesn't seem to pose any more of a problem than a contracepting woman or a man married to his second wife while his first wife is still living.

Around here there don't seem to be many questions asked.

‘Gay patient says Catholic chaplain refused him last rites’

I see what you're saying. :) I've seen it called annoiting of the sick, but I didn't know that extreme unction is out now. Thanks. We can't KNOW that lack of contrition is the reason the sacraments were refused, but I can't see any other plausible reason. Like a previous poster said, we won't...

‘Gay patient says Catholic chaplain refused him last rites’

I don't think so. There are so many Catholics who don't believe they should have to change their lifestyle in response to Christ. These Catholics have fronted up to Church for baptisms, confirmations, and weddings and received communion without worrying about whether or not they are in a state...

‘Gay patient says Catholic chaplain refused him last rites’

There has to be more to this story. Priests are not allowed to refuse to hear a confession, they can refuse absolution though. I know you have to be in a state of grace to receive communion, do you likewise need to be in a state of grace to receive extreme unction?

    A Surprise in the Mail

How lovely. I hope that in some small way your bumper sticker brings hope to others too. I love Pope Francis. We are lucky to have him.

Australian prime minister criticizes pharmacist who opposes contraception

Did you read the note they put in the bag? I thought it was pretty mild. Simply "we're Catholic so could you consider filling this script elsewhere."

Australian prime minister criticizes pharmacist who opposes contraception

I think the chemist is happy to sell it to those whoop use it as medication not contraception. I quite like the chemist's approach. He will provide it without questioning the customer, but asks that customers respect his beliefs and go elsewhere if they are contracepting. Inoffensive but effective.
