  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Sadism and the preaching of God's wrath.

Ah yes, this sermon is quite familiar to me. I was attending Bethlehem when Pastor John preached this sermon, and it definitely helped me to understand the interplay between the commandment for believers in Jesus to show mercy and the wrath of God. I would certainly recommend it. As to the...

    Anyone familiar with Mass Spec?

Uh, I know how a mass spectrometer works. But from the terminology you're using, it sounds like you're doing chemistry. Since I don't do chemistry and have never used a mass spec for my research, I don't know if I'd be of much help.

My Father is Becoming a Calvinist

Since you're asking a bunch of Calvinists to help you because your father is becoming a Calvinist, can I assume you want us to accelerate his progress? You should join him. We have cookies, and they aren't transubstantiated!

    How many of you creationists...

Here it is, And God made the two great lights--the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night--and the stars. (Genesis 1:16) For a star to work, hydrogen fusion is required. This necessitates a release of heat, which causes an increase in the universe's entropy. Thus...

What is CF's view of scripture

My friend, I used to have the same problem with CF. I've never been to a liberal church before, and it was on Internet forums like this where I learned about the existence of Christians and Christian churches that don't believe in the inerrency of Scripture. I suppose at some point, I stopped...

    Old Covenant Confusion

I think a lot of unnecessary confusion arises because people equate keeping the Sabbath with going to church. The Law prohibits any sort of work on the Sabbath day. But pastors work on Sundays when they preach. Those of us who volunteer at church are also working (I volunteer to watch babies...

    Baptist History

I think it does run contrary to the truth. The "evidence" put forth by the Landmark crowd is not evidence at all. They make statements without supporting them with primary sources. Do you know of any primary sources which attest to churches that were Baptistic in the way that you say they...

    Baptist History

Churches should really stop setting themselves up as enemies of the truth. I often wonder why some churches waste their time and resources trying to teach doctrines that run contrary to the truth and that aren't even tangentially related to the Gospel. It encourages lying and...

    Kentucky Creation Museum

I have to agree with you. It sounds like this museum doesn't do justice to either Scripture or science (not that you would concern yourself terribly much with the former). I too think that this museum is a waste of resources and ought not to be open. But, as you say, it's a free country...

    Literal

Perhaps you should define what you mean by the idea of "literal interpretation." At some level, most of us don't interpret anything literally, including spoken English. I read the Bible in the way that seems to most naturally agree with authorial intent. As such, I don't take things literally...

    Questions about light

The special theory of relativity states that the speed of light is the same in every reference frame. This statement is not ad hoc, and follows directly from the classical theory of electrodynamics (i.e. it's based on the way electric charges and current-carrying electrical wires work). The...

side-effects to tithing an Arminian church?

I think the other brothers have put it best. If a church is worth attending, it's probably worth tithing to. I could perhaps conceive of some hypothetical case in which someone might attend a church and not tithe. But that person should examine his own heart and make sure that he's not...

    How many of you creationists...

I doubt the average American has to worry about putting too much emphasis on knowledge. :) I all seriousness though, this culture doesn't value knowledge enough, and most people are satisfied to remain ignorant. This is not virtuous. As for the issue of the hard work required in academia...

    How many of you creationists...

Wow, what an old thread. Anyway, it's funny running into this old post of mine. I've just finished my second year of grad school...three more to go. And what have I learned? My fellow American students are actually just as stupid as me, and the foreign students are smarter than all of us!

    Dark Matter/Energy

FYI (if you care about the hierarchy of particles): All particles are either bosons or fermions. Bosons have integer spin, and fermions have half-integer spin. This is actually an important distinction because of the Spin-statistics theorem. Quarks and leptons are both examples of fermions...
