  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    To those who support Danmark...

Each country is free to make their own laws, it should also be the people's right to either leave that country, or work to change laws that they feel are not right. I, personally, do see arresting people for denying the Holocaust as an infringement on freedom of speech. However, since I am not...

Should women be allowed to go topless in public?

I think women should be encouraged to go topless in public. But that could just be because I like seeing women's breasts in all of their shapes and sizes -- they could even be cube shaped and I'd still like them.

    Abortion isn't murder.

I believe that a fetus does not have "life" -- beyond simple biological life, similar ro plants and animals -- until it is born and takes it's first breath. Prior to a baby taking it's first breath, aborting a fetus is not murder.

The Beijing Olympics. Should it be boycotted?

The Olympics are supposed to be a non-political venue where representatives from any country can compete. Sadly, however, few people seem to be able to separate the politics from the sports. I don't think the Olympics should be boycotted, I think the Olympics should be non-political.

    masturbation challenge

The thread title is definitely an attention getter. Concerning the chalenge: "Mr. Happy" is the best "toy" I've ever owned. I've had it for 40 years and I never get tired of playing with it.

What is Morality and Where does it Come From?

Please note that I never said that morality was a basic need. What I said was, "Our basic need for survival is the strongest influence on morality."

What is Morality and Where does it Come From?

When you consider that Hitler himself believed the Bible, thought himself to be a Christian, and believed he was acting within most, if not all, of your five guidelines, then it could be argued that he was acting morally when exterminating Jews. However, it is obvious within the context of basic...

    To those who support Danmark...

1- It may be morally wrong for them to post the cartoons, but freedom of speech extends to allowing people to express things that are morally wrong. Freedom of expression, however, never extends to the point where the expression involves harming other people and/or property, or impeding...

What is Morality and Where does it Come From?

At it's most basic, morality is a set of social standards. Morality evolved as a means of survival. Since there is safety in numbers, man formed small communities for safety. The members of the community worked together to provide sustinence, shelter, etc., as well as protection from...

Should the "Golden Rule" be Altered?

I think it's just fine as it is. At it's most basic, I want to be treated with respect, so I will treat others with respect. The specifics may vary from person to person, but the basic respect is still there.

For Aethist: What makes you think there is no God?

Thanks for answering, but I really wasn't looking for answer to those questions. I was simply trying to point out that if a person were to take his (or her) questions to an atheist about the atheist's lack of belief in a god, and substitute any other religion's god, then ask themself the same...

    To those who support Danmark...

I believe that everyone should have the freedom to express themself any way they want, so long as they do not phyically harm or impede anyone else. If a person want to say that the U.S. is the most vile and evil nation on the planet, it is their right to exress themself that way. Of course...

For Aethist: What makes you think there is no God?

Replace Allah with any god of your choosing. You could use Zeus if you want. I simply used Allah as a reference to the Muslim god as opposed to the Christian god.

For Aethist: What makes you think there is no God?

    1) As an atheist, I do not belive in the existence of any god(s). 2) The burden of proof of the existence or non-existence does not lie with the person who does not belive in the existence of god, it lies with the person claiming that a god exists. If a person claims that fairies exist, it os...
