  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Christians and attitude

Faith Guardian has a point. I was abused as a little boy, over a period of several years. (Not by family, I should add.). It took many years, but forgiveness came eventually. As a victim of long term abuse and as a CHristian I say that it is not something I expect of any victim to manage...

WikiLeaks, feared by those who would rob us the people of our power.

Yes. But things CAN change. I'm not very optimistic either to be honest. But no change can come without a few pushes. And this whole WikiLeaks deal is one rather large push. I think/hope. I like Americans. I've studied at an American school as a kid, I'm married to a wonderful American woman...

    Wikileaks and Julian Assange

Treason according to dictionary . com: Assange is Australian. The USA is not his country. Hence, NOT treason. Q.E.D.

WikiLeaks, feared by those who would rob us the people of our power.

We've kicked our politicians out over FAR less. I am going to HOPE you'll show integrity and moral backbone sufficient to do the same in the US. You kicked Bill out for his affair and then lying about it. So why not these people, whose crimes are FAR worse. Americans are good people. I still...

    Wikileaks and Julian Assange

I don't think they do. The US and Japan are the only ones in "the west" who do I believe. It was just a hypothetical example. For the sake of argument let's say they do.

    Wikileaks and Julian Assange

So, you think that an Australian who is not subject to American law should be tried and executed for breaking American law. But an American who is not subject to French or Australian law should not be subject to the same if he should choose to break their laws? This is extremely hypocritical...

    Wikileaks and Julian Assange

So, if an American reveals sensitive - say - French information he should be sent to France, given a FAIR trial, then executed?

    Wikileaks and Julian Assange

As for number 1: Hair-splitting! Yes, he was Australian, NOT American, so it is NOT treason. And my question remains: Should anyone revealing sensitive information be given to the country whose information they revealed to be tried and executed? If not, why only people who reveal information...

    Wikileaks and Julian Assange

So, you think this is the dark ages? Sorry to disappoint you. It's 2010, and Australia is not occupied by the US. So not only is he outside US jurisdiction, he also - unlike WW - has not killed anyone or waged war against anyone. Plus I'd like to think society has evolved a little since the days...

    Wikileaks and Julian Assange

No. It is simply abuse of words. I cannot betray a thief I see in the streets if I report him to the police unless I swore allegiance to that thief. I - as a non-US citizen cannot commit treason against the US because I have never sworn allegiance to the US. It's pretty basic stuff really...

    Wikileaks and Julian Assange

So you're OK with people revealing information to other countries, so long as the information revealed is not American. But if someone - whoever - reveals information about the US this person should be shot, regardless of nationality? And you don't find this hypocritical at all?

    Wikileaks and Julian Assange

He's not American, do you think you should have authority to pick him up and shoot him? He has not betrayed anyone, has he? He has revealed information he received about a foreign power. Should what you say then extend to other countries picking up American citizens and shooting them? What would...

    Wikileaks and Julian Assange

Nope. It certainly is not. Revealing it to the public is fine, should said information reveal immoral or illegal behavior. Of course location of military bases, passwords or other access information to governmental databases and such is one thing, but I see no problem letting the public know...

    Wikileaks and Julian Assange

Well, he hasn't revealed it to a specific foreign power, but to the world. And isn't that good when said information reveals highly immoral actions by the leadership? They SHOULD be held accountable for their actions, right? The leadership I mean... And what's more, they are not above the law...

    Wikileaks and Julian Assange

I see it has already been pointed out that Assange cannot be tried for treason in the US as it is not his own nation. I don't see why WikiLeaks should be anything but praised by conservatives and liberals alike. It uncovers corruption and deceit by leaders, which is bad. For the corrupt and...
