  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    The Chosen, some questions.

I've watched some word-for-word movies and also fictional inspired-by-scripture movies. I've only liked two of them. The first is the word-for-word Gospel of John, where the annoyances were rare but not minor. And now The Chosen, which has many things that bother me, but it had so many good...

I'm confused and guilty and I'm not sure what to do or how to feel

I belong to a Catholic church. I confess to God. I pray to God as Jesus taught us. If a priest wants to hear my confession I give it to him. I do whatever penance he says. And when another Catholic prays with me aloud, I accept that he wants to ask Mary for intercession. But it's not my way. So...

    Sexism and Religion

Blacks don't support anti-black racism. Blacks might be conditioned to see themselves as less capable to of certain things and even go along with it, but they also fight against this. For example, I've never met a black who says "whites should make more money than blacks." But I've met many...

    Are we not Christians?

I was referred to another thread so I posted over there. Maybe I should have explained here. But here's why I brought this up: http://www.christianforums.com/t7834522-11/#post66175115

    Catholicism is not Christianity?

I was just referred to this thread after creating a new thread on the same topic. Once a week a lay person from the church brings me communion. He refers to Protestants as Christians and us as Catholics. I have voiced my views to him that we are also Christians, and he just sort of stares as...

    Are we not Christians?

I've noticed some Catholics differentiating between themselves and Protestants by referring to Protestants as Christians and Catholics as Catholics. Are we not also Christians? And doesn't this repeated representation of ourselves as something other than Christians work against us and what we...

I can't do anything as well as Christ did.

Works and Faith, Christian Unity, Christian Diversity

I think this is an excellent first step. Saint Paul pointed out that the Holy Spirit gives different gifts to different Christians. That could be what we see reflected in the different congregations. Some are better at tradition, others with evangelism, others with celebration.

Works and Faith, Christian Unity, Christian Diversity

Pope Francis sends a message of Reconciliation and Unity between the Catholic Church and the Evangelical Church by his personal friend Bishop Tony Palmer. Pope Francis says 'We are Brothers - Let us Come Together like Joseph and His Brothers'! Pope Francis sends message of Christian Unity by...

Help with Book of Common Prayer

Even though it was explained to me by a priest, I don't remember how to use the guide in the beginning to understand what to read on a given day. I searched the Internet and found some articles about Book of Common Prayer, but nothing that simply told me what to do on a given day, assuming one...

    Communion from a Lay Person

I wish they didn't call it "Last Rites." The term assumes the person will not pull through. It assumes no divine intervention. It might not be the "last."

    Communion from a Lay Person

I had to look up "OP." So now I guess that's me. I feel fellowship with all Christians, and my forum symbol reflects this. I receive visits from the Catholic church because I'm Catholic.

    Communion from a Lay Person

Thinking about this more, I read somewhere that a lay person can offer extreme unction to a dying person if a priest is not available. So it would make sense that a lay person can offer communion when a priest is not available. I guess I'd just prefer a priest, because they give me good...
