  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Homosexual brother is angry with me and refuses to understand

Just to clarify - I'm not saying that at all. Thanks.

Homosexual brother is angry with me and refuses to understand

I don't disagree with what you were saying here. But my point in asking that question is that there are a lot of things that people do that is against God's commandments/laws that most christians aren't as judgemental about as they are about homosexuality. It's a bit hypocritical, if you ask...

Homosexual brother is angry with me and refuses to understand

If someone you loved who was a Christian was marrying an unbeliever, would you go to the wedding? I have rarely seen people make a huge stink about that, but that is something God also commands against. What I'm seeing on this thread is that homosexuality is this big gigantic sin that trumps...

Why does god keeps rewarding awful behavior from women?

AzureBlue, As it's been said, at least a few times throughout this thread: We are not to look around at others and compare our happiness to theirs. We have absolutely no clue how truly happy they are or how much peace they have. Many who seem to have the "perfect life" in public, or the...

Can God really speak through dreams?

I've had many times where I have a dream and it really gets me thinking about something. I don't know as there were *visions from God* there, but I doubt very much that they weren't some sort of communication from God. I think that if it's a dream that makes a big impact on you and you...

Advice for sheepish Christians - can't be ashamed of the Gospel

I was also a very shy, quiet and introverted person. I am still generally that way, but I'm not ever ashamed of or sheepish about my beliefs. On the other hand, as WanderingBloom stated, I don't preach at people. I am what I am; I'm fairly sure that everyone who knows me at all, other than...

What is the purpose (and point) of prayer then?

As many others have said, prayer is about a relationship. God is not a vending machine or a genie. All of the examples of prayer you gave were "Give me what I want, now." sort of deals. I mean, that's how I believed prayer worked when I was growing up: the only time we prayed in my house...

Struggling in this religion, trying to find my place...

I agree with the spirit of this message but I firmly believe most people have the intelligence to be intellectual. I have just observed that we, as society, are trained to be lazy and not use the minds we're given. I used to believe I was stupid or simple-minded. I discovered that I was...

Homosexual brother is angry with me and refuses to understand

Not sure if you misread my post or something. I didn't say he should go to the wedding. I was talking about understanding his brother's anger and outrage and antagonism.

Struggling in this religion, trying to find my place...

That is a ridiculous thing to say. LOL. I am a Christian (after many years of agnosticism/atheism) and, not to brag, but I have been told that I'm very intelligent. The more I get to know God, the more I love learning about nature, science, logic, animals, art, music, beauty, etc etc. I...

Question about verse about forgiving others.....

As the other responder said, forgiveness does not mean that you are condoning their action. It just shows that you value the relationship more than you value anger. Forgiveness is about letting the anger go. There have actually been studies that say that anger is actually toxic to us...

Homosexual brother is angry with me and refuses to understand

Michael, First of all, I understand your reasons for not going, and your convictions. However, have you thought about it from your brother's perspective? He is lost and he wants his brother, who I'm sure he loves, even though he is behaving very antagonistic toward you, to be at an important...

When lying feels like the best option

Well, perhaps I misunderstood what you were saying. Sorry about that. It's just something that really irritates me - when Christians have this idea that we're human so we should just go on sinning, as if we have no self control. Glad you weren't saying that. Op, wise...

    Question about Your Job

I love my job. I look forward to going to work and get bored when I'm forced to take time off (during the Christmas break). But I teach music (piano lessons), so it's a fairly unconventional type of job. I do think it's possible to have a job that you enjoy. I've had many jobs which were...

How do I deal with a spouse who constantly mocks Christianity?

Um, perhaps the OP was not a christian yet, when she married him. Even if she was a christian and made a sad decision to become unequally yolked, she's in the situation now and has to deal with it as is. Divorce is NOT the answer. Divorce is an absolute last resort. God can repair a...
