  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is Stephen Hawking Really This Stupid?

I'd hardly consider being 0.000021% closer to the actual creation of the Universe accounts for much. 3,000 out of 14,000,000,000 isn't very much. Remember, if the entirety of the life of the Universe were one day, all of human civilization would have occured in the last one-tenth of one...

BOO to the US Supreme Court!

And some stupid kid could see Tom & Jerry hit each other with hammers and go hit his brother and kill him. Is that the fault of the cartoon? NO! People are responsible, fully, for their actions. No movie, book or cartoon can influence a person to do something evil if they weren't headed in...

BOO to the US Supreme Court!

You cannot prove that any form of animation causes those things, Susan. The best you could show is that people who are likely to abuse their children are also likely to watch hwhateveri. That proves merely correlation, not causation.

BOO to the US Supreme Court!

And you say "extreme perversion." Who gets to decide what that is? What you, as an anti-pornography zealot, consider "perverse" is not likely going to line up with what most people consider perverse. Why do you get to decide this? Again, I consider Pat Robertson to be perverse and putrid...

BOO to the US Supreme Court!

It is already against the law to produce images of real adults having sex with real children. If they are not really children int he videos, or in this case, are animated, then no one is harmed in the production of the videos, and there is no grounds for banning them. That's why SCOTUS struck...

BOO to the US Supreme Court!

I've never seen Hentai. I don't like Asian cartoons, aside from perhaps Cowboy Beebop. But because it offends you and you think it could make someone violent, Susan, doesn't mean that you have the right to say other mature adults cannot be allowed to enjoy or watch it.

BOO to the US Supreme Court!

It may be. It may not be. That is not for me, or you to decide. Art is in the eye of the beholder. Some people don't think comic books are art. Some people don't think modern art is art. Most people wouldn't consider some form of art to be art. Just because something is violent doesn't mean...

BOO to the US Supreme Court!

Better to ban too little, than to ban too much, and start down that slippery slope.

BOO to the US Supreme Court!

Who are you, Susan, to judge what is worthwhile? Who makes you the arbiter of what is art and what is not? Of what has value to society and what does not? The law was overturned because it could have been used to ban legitimate art like "American Beauty" and other films. It was broadly...

    Anti Anti-Catholic Tract takes form...

If you're creating a document for printing, Word is a much better option than PowerPoint. Word would let you have text from one page continue onto the next, and would likely print better. PowerPoint is for slideshows, not for printing tracts and the like. Being Microsoft software, its already...

    Modernist vs. Orthodox Catholic?

Hoonbah, give no mind to SSPX, "True Catholics" and the other schismatic sects that splintered off after Vatican II. They are not in union with the Pope, and as such are not truly Catholic in any substansive sense. Go to sites and read works that are in communion with the Vatican and Pope, the...

BOO to the US Supreme Court!

If ten people can watch something, and not commit a crime, but one person watches it and does, does that mean that the entertainment itself is bad? No. It means there's something wrong with the person who is led to violence. If you don't like free speech, and you would force everyone to live...

BOO to the US Supreme Court!

The prohibitions against "fire!" is questionable, but sustainable. The provisions against libel and slander are of course, inherent. However, I have every right to stand on a street corner and shout what I will. And you have no right to silence me. You have no right not to be called a bad...

BOO to the US Supreme Court!

Speech should be free for those of legal age, with no restrictions. If Congress had written a law that simply banned pornography featuring minors, instead of a law that banned all images of anyone who APPEARS to be underage that deal with sexuality (even movies like "American Pie" would be...

    Intercession of the saints

Nick, of course we have Jesus to pray for us. In fact, all prayers of the Saints must pass through him to reach God the Father, given his role as the one Mediator. Why do you think we're saying that Jesus doesn't pray for us?
