  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Killer10-23-14 Invited Victims To Lunch With Text Messages Before Shooting Them

Drugs? Steroid rage? Mental illness? Sociopathy doesn't fit well, from what I know of sociopaths. They like to manipulate, create havoc and watch people suffer. They like to ruin people and win. This seems more like a fit of rage. Sociopaths enjoy life and enjoy playing people against...

I feel like there's some kind of spirit living in my house

I feel strange talking about this as I have absolutely zero experience or knowledge about this kind of thing. I feel like there's some kind of spirit or ghost living in my house. I don't have the nerve to talk about this with any friends, neighbors or family lest they think I'm insane. I'm...

    Time magazine recommending Scientology?

I was just googling something like, "Los Angeles with toddler" or something similar. A zillion results popped up, the fourth of which was a list from Time magazine of the top ten things to do in Los Angeles with a family. They go through their top ten attractions one by one until you read...

Where can I learn more about Anglican practices and rituals?

Not at any of the Episcopal or Anglican churches I've attended in Colorado, California, or Washington state. No one in the congregation is casual either.

Yes, but you list your location as the UK while the OP has an American flag icon. This thread is about her post.

By choosing the word Anglican instead of Episcopal I assumed she didn't mean Episcopal but some kind of continuing Anglican.

Where can I learn more about Anglican practices and rituals?

I was raised in an atheist household and became a Christian at the age of 20, so I wasn't raised in the church at all. For a few years I attended Presbyterian, Catholic and Lutheran churches. The I attended a Baptist church for a while. That was followed by years in Calvary Chapel with a...

Maybe because your husband is more open to it than he is to Orthodoxy? I'm sorry you feel unsupported in your faith but I'm glad that you're not giving up because of it. I haven't settled on a denomination or parish church either but you've got it narrowed down to two choices that are...

    Small o orthodox

Oh, it looks like I've been unclear yet again. I meant that last comment very literally. I'm an engineer and think in very literal, straightforward terms. I may have been expressing some exasperation with my own inability to come to a distinct conclusion about one branch of the church being...

That's beautiful, thank you. Maybe I should just return to my old habit of attending more than one church. I really don't have opinions on these topics and it avoids taking a stand for a single position. Maybe church membership is not for me.

That is precisely my dilemma -- which group of Anglicans to stand with. For the past nine years I've worshipped at both TEC and AMIA. When I moved to Washington state I ended up at TEC mainly because the ACNA/PEARUSA is far away and I had an unreliable car. Now I have a new car and going to...

    Small o orthodox

I've been struggling with these ideas for a long time and don't know what to think. I'm an engineer, as I think I mentioned, and I like for things to be clear. I'm not sure it will ever be clear to me. Yesterday's second scripture reading caught my attention: That last paragraph seems to...

Okay, making that distinction between authority and inerrancy helps.

    Small o orthodox

I just thought of something else. If referring to scripture as the Word of God is an acknowledgement of Biblical authority, there's another place in the BCP that acknowledges Biblical authority besides the 39 Articles: After the first two scripture readings the lector says, "The Word of the...

    Small o orthodox

That's interesting. Is it possible to "believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments to be the Word of God" and believe, for example, that admonitions against "men lying with men" were simply influenced by the culture of the time? I'm not trying to provoke something. My question...
