  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

    Defences against d4

I won't say my rating needless to say it's MUCH lower than 2250-2350 :). I usually prefer to play slightly longer games and my game is usally tactically solid (at leats formthe level I'm playing at), but I often finind myself floundering against d4 because I'm less famlair with the openings.

    Defences against d4

Yep I was kinda looking for a dfence that givess a psychological adavantage, I've been browisng through Batsford's Chess openings, but I can't seem to see any lines that really spring out at me. I dpn't think I have to worry about GMs :), except perhaps on Matser challenge on WCN.

    God and Math

You can't do like that I'm afarid as there is no last term. As I said infinite strings like this are not generally defined in algebraic systems, wee can howver look at the sum to infinity which as I said is the limit of the sequence of partial sums of a series, but by defintion there is no last...

    God and Math

For a start what's 0 + 0 + 0..... anyway? such infinite strings are not defined in fields. The concpet of the sum to infinity is precisley defined as the limit of the sequence of partial sums of a series. the infinite series 0 + 0 + 0..... is not equal to the infinite series 1 + (-1) + 1 +...

US prepares invasion of Venezuela to Seize Oil Fields?

The story is certainly not improbable as it is not as if this was eniterly unbeleoveable. However it is still highly unlikely for the simple fact that GWB simply does not have to option of invading Venezula any time soon as at the moment there is a large shortfall of troops in the numbers needed...

95% probability that universe came into existence uncaused.

He's not a scientist he's a philosopher, there's little evidnece that he understands what he is talking about.

95% probability that universe came into existence uncaused.

The problem is not the theory itself, but the arguments put forward by Smith. Reading the essays on physics at his site he says some pretty vacuous things scientifically and infact he even gets his facts wrong on the philosophical aspect (i.e. he ascribes postions to philosophical people which...

95% probability that universe came into existence uncaused.

We've had this one before, the theory is very, very speculative (infact it's not even very fashionable theory in the area), to me it shows that he doesn;t have a clue what he's talking about if he uses this theory to support this argument.

Global Warming Approaching Point of No Return, Warns Leading Climate Expert

Who says global warming isn't caused by man's activites? There is a scientific consensus within the field of climatology that climate change is the direct result of human acyivty, indeed rather tellingly no-one has been able to come up with a climate model that correctly recreates the...

Do any other scietific-based minds have problems with "faith"?

But the problem is your already accpeting things without 'hard proof' and it is unavoidable. There is nothing in science that is truly proven as science doe snot do absolute proof. Statemnts may be proven within thoeires, howver theories may not be proven.
