  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Why Do Christians Resist the Idea of “Social Justice”? A Theological Question

A closer reading of the actual text reveals what the problem was. The motive for building the tower was to rebel against God's mandate to the post-Flood survivors to spread out into the earth. The Babel architects said, "Nope. We need a tower so that we can make a name for ourselves and avoid...

    Wesleyan Covenant Prayer

It is indeed John Wesley's writings. It's a Methodist tradition to recite this either at a New Year's Eve watchnight service (which themselves have fallen into rarity due to people not wanting to deal with bad drivers on Alcohol Amateur Night), or at the first service following New Year's Day.

The Thing Most Sabbath Keepers Do not Talk About.

The whole thing about the manna is a bit more complicated, according to the passage in Exodus 16. The main thing to observe is that God kept his own rules in this instance. The people were instructed to gather it daily because it would spoil overnight, except on the Sabbath eve when they were...

    Article - about Anglican beliefs.

Nothing more than expanding a bit by supplying the full quote. It seems that the Anglican Articles in this regard do not prescribe a strict verbal inerrancy except in matters relating directly to salvation.

    Article - about Anglican beliefs.

This is the actual statement of the Church of England from their Articles of Religion: "Holy Scripture containeth all things necessary to salvation: so that whatsoever is not read therein, nor may be proved thereby, is not to be required of any man, that it should be believed as an article of...

    Article - about Anglican beliefs.

Even Methodists and other Wesleyans (a spinoff from the Church of England) tend to shy away from "inerrancy" in favor of "sufficiency".

need prayers finding a church (political triggers inside)

They're not all created equal. The Bible Church in our town is as right-wing as it gets. They manage to get in their little digs at Democrats and "libruls" even in the middle of deep exegesis.

Congregation don't understand that Jesus died for their sins - but are they saved?

I read you loud and clear on that one. When you are used to a more evangelical outlook on things, "be nice" as the primary message is pretty weak sauce. I came back to the UMC to pursue Certified Lay Ministry, and one of my goals is to explicitly preach the gospel of Christ dying for our sins...

House floor erupts after Boebert calls for prayer following Charlie Kirk killing: 'Absolutely disgusting'

(staff edit) Politicians truly do disgust me. I pray that the Lord Jesus Christ will save their souls. FTFY. While I have no problem with Boebert calling for open prayer, her doing so immediately after an observed moment of silent prayer seems more performative and legalistic than anything.

Here’s the No. 1 fallacy on eternal security

The WCF is basically saying "if you're saved and one of the elect, you're going to prove it by remaining in the faith until you're called home." That's a far cry from its current corruption of "once saved always saved," in which the individual once saved, can totally apostasize but God's still...

The Harm Caused by Excessive Criticism of the Roman Catholic Church and Other Denominations

That said, without concern for the context of the original quote, "I mean, "Come out from her". We have to maintain our separation," could easily apply in a strict literal sense to the current rabbit trail of contraception...

The Harm Caused by Excessive Criticism of the Roman Catholic Church and Other Denominations

Papal infallibility is far more nuanced than "the pope can say whatever he wants." The doctrine was not even formulated until the mid-19th century. In addition, this only extends to when the Pope makes an official statement on doctrine. In all honesty, the Catholics have only played that card...

    UMC General Conference 2024 Results

It wasn't "without warning". The escape plan was written to sunset December 31, 2024 all along. Granted, some of the annual conferences threw everything in the book at churches trying to leave to prevent them thus running out the clock.
