  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Catholics: Did Mary need faith in Christ?

Typical, when your theology makes zero sense, you shoot the messenger. I tried hard to follow your tortured insane reasonings. Have fun worshiping a human being that has zero power to save you.

Catholics: Did Mary need faith in Christ?

He was saved by faith in God, though whether the "harrowing of hell" happened after the resurrection is a whole other story. However, these things are theologically consistent. If you don't agree with the whole harrowing of hell thing, remember that it was Catholic dogma in Dante's time...

Casing me doubt: the date of the writing of the gospels?

Polycarp mentions first john and almost every other NT book. 1 john quotes gospel of john. The Development of the Canon of the New Testament - Polycarp Clement quotes Gospels in the first century. Go read 1 Clement if you don't believe me.

Casing me doubt: the date of the writing of the gospels?

People who doubt the moon landing have zero understanding of science. People who place the Gospels practically into the third century also have close to zero understanding of ancient history.

Catholics: Did Mary need faith in Christ?

That's a contradiction. Christ's blood cannot retroactively wash away original sin (first reply) to Mary while at the same time not requiring retroactive forgiveness (second reply), because of Mary not committing any "actual" sins (they are all sin to me, sin is revealed by the inclination of...

Casing me doubt: the date of the writing of the gospels?

The moon landing is disputed. I don't take that seriously, being that Ignatius was quoted early on.

Casing me doubt: the date of the writing of the gospels?

Wishful thinking. Clement quoted Gospels and Ignatius was quoting even the Gospel of John, far before 130 AD.

Catholics: Did Mary need faith in Christ?

If Christ sacrifice's purpose was to absolve sins, how does it perform the additional function of preventing sin? Obviously, Mary was not retroactively forgiven sins because she never committed them. So, Christ's sacrifice was unnecessary specifically for Mary's salvation, but the Holy...

Catholics: Did Mary need faith in Christ?

Thanks for the answer. Being that the Bible specifies that those who break the Law are under condemnation, I presume that Mary perfectly fulfilled the Law's requirements. If that's the case, is it fair to say she merited her own salvation being that she would be under no curse that results from...

Catholics: Did Mary need faith in Christ?

Well, that's a little screwed up. Babies need to be baptized because they have original sin, in order to cleanse them of it. If Mary was not born with original sin, then she would not need to be baptized or saved in anyway. She would have fulfilled all the Law's requirements, and she would be...

Catholics: Did Mary need faith in Christ?

How is it blaspheme? If Jesus Christ helps an adulteress woman up from the ground and shares meals with "sinners," how would he be born with sin if He came from an unclean vessel? It seems to me you have zero understanding of how sin is imputed to people...It's certainly not by physical touch...

Catholics: Did Mary need faith in Christ?

So Mary had to be without sin, so Christ would be without sin, so that His sacrifice on Calvary would absolve those who believe in Christ of their sin? If that's correct, then I have a follow up question, but I don't want to run away with myself.

Catholics: Did Mary need faith in Christ?

So Mary was not saved from original sin before her conception, but she was not imputed it coinciding with her conception, is that accurate? If that is the case, Christ did not have to die for her at all. Even your quotes, speaking of Christ's "merits," implies that in light of Christ's...

Catholics: Did Mary need faith in Christ?

No, you clearly contradicted yourself, but maybe you explained yourself improperly. So, before we are born all of us are pre-existant spirits? Also, why did Christ have to die for St. Mary if she was not born with terminal original sin?

Catholics: Did Mary need faith in Christ?

You wrote yesterday: Mary needed to be saved; specifically, from the stain of original sin. She did not do anything that was a sin. Why the reversal? Also, if Mary did not have original sin, why did Christ have to die for her then?
