  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

    always sick...

Hi saintsfan! I'm sorry you've been going through so much. I can relate to it, to some extent. My health started to go south in 2011. All of a sudden, I started to have various symptoms, including skin conditions, GI issues, lightheadedness, weight loss... Doctors haven't been of much help...

    Pastrix

I haven't, but I know about the author. I've heard her on several podcasts and radio shows, she sounds really interesting. My kind of pastor. Pastrix, that is. :)

Historical Critical == Bible is a Lie?

I'm sorry you're in a such a bad place right now. For what it's worth, there are really good people out there, and also some really good church communities. It may take a while to find a group of people you connect with, but try not to be so negative. I don't know your particular...

Absolutely sick of Judgemental and Ill informed Christians

I also have a massive problem with judgmental Christians, but with ill-informed I feel I can actually work with, by providing them with an alternative approach and simply showing them a different way to interpret the Scriptures, or what have you. I've found that very often people don't...

Searching for liberal Christians in Europa!

Hi Freepeople, I'm in Europe, and I can relate to how you feel. There are liberal churches out there, but I often find that the regular people in the pews are far more conservative than the church leadership. That has also been my experience with EKD and other mainline protestant churches in...

    IBS distress

Yes, I hear the same thing from others with IBS, and I've felt the same. Back in 2011 and 2012 I visited so many different doctors and took so many different tests, in the end some of the doctors suggested I might be hypochondriac. I found that insulting. Basically, none of the tests (which, I...

    IBS distress

Thank you for this comment and for good wishes. Yes, IBS is a major nuisance, to say the least. I'm praying daily for everyone suffering from it.

If being gay was against natural

That's a gross misrepresentation. This does happen in some hard-core Islamist societies - not so much because they're Muslim, but because they're underdeveloped and lacking in general respect for human rights, as is the case in many "Christian" countries (Uganda is a horrific example of that...

    A journey to liberal Christianity

I grew up Roman Catholic, got disillusioned in the Church in my teens, started attending an Anglican church in my early 20s which coincided with my discovery of Spong and other liberal authors. That initially led me to agnosticism, and a study of eastern religions, esp. Zen Buddhism. At one...

If being gay was against natural

Once again homosexuality gets identified with anal sex. Seriously. Would you boil down heterosexuality and all that it means to vaginal sex? Leviticus is a legal document relating to a specific group of people. Similarly, one could advocate no sex whatsoever for heterosexual Christians...

    Healing ministry among liberal Christians

Thank you all for the responses. I'm glad to see my impression was not entirely correct. It still seems to me there's much less focus on this aspect of Christian life among liberal than among conservative Christians, but it's great to hear people have experienced healing through prayer...

    IBS distress

Thank you for the thoughtful response. About this last bit - there is a tradition of Christian meditation that goes back to medieval monasticism. Not all meditation is automatically an import from Hinduism or other religions of the East. As for yoga, there are many schools, some of them with an...

If being gay was against natural

Yes. Paul and his 1st century audience couldn't possibly have any idea of the contemporary notions of gay identity. He was many things, but clairvoyant he was not. I think the key word in that quote is not "unnatural" but "traded", as in acting opposite to what God created one to be. Gay...

The Fourth Gospel: Tales of a Jewish Mystic

I used to be a huge fan of Spong, I still have some of his books. The one that was really influential on me is "Resurrection: Myth or Reality". My faith hasn't been the same after I read that one. My views have since become much more theistic, though, but I definitely appreciate his work, even...
