  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

    ALL SCRIPTURE is God-breathed

Actually Paul with Scripture had in mind only a portion of the OT: The Pentateuch, the Prophets and the Psalm. In other words the Bible older than the the Exile. For sure he had not in mind the NT, and surely not the NT books not yet written (such as Gospel of John, Revelation, Hebrews...) when...

The LORD says to my lord

Psalm 110:1 is also the key of Jesus reasoning about the Messiah in Luke 20:41-44: Here Jesus states that the two Kirios in Psalm 110.1 refers the first to David and the second to the Messiah. Probably Jesus would fail any modern exam of Biblical Hebrew saying that where in the MT is written...

The LORD says to my lord

Very interesting indeed Mt 22:42 is about who is the Messiah. Pharisees say that the Messiah was important, but however a man (the son of David). Jesus point out Psalm 110.1, where the two reference to Kyrios. Being the same word (Kyrios) it refers to two "entities" of the same grade, same...

The LORD says to my lord

As far as I know, our Psalm 110 is not present in Qumran, Dead Sea Great Psalms Scroll (11Q5). see http://dssenglishbible.com/scroll11Q5.htm also see the "The Dead Sea Scrolls Bible " by Martin G_ Abegg Jr_ & Peter Flint & Eugene Ulrich (I have at home) which states: "In 11QPsa Psalm 109 was...

The LORD says to my lord

I too believe that Matthew was originally written in Aramaic (see Carmignac studies), and the Greek text which use the two Kyrios is just a translation of the lost Aramaic text (which used two "adonai" or two "mar"), without the need to refer to the LXX. And the two "adonai" of the Aramaic text...

The LORD says to my lord

The oldest complete Hebrew Bible is the Leningrax Codex dated about 1006. Few very partial manuscripts are older, mainly just quotations. So there is a huge gap between the Qumran scroll and the modern Hebrew bible. Hebrew scholars on this point are very susceptible and refuse to even think that...

The LORD says to my lord

Jesus spoke Aramaic. Probably he knew also some Hebrew, that at that time was a death language (like Latin to today Italians). In any case the Books of the Bible were taught by memory (papyrs were very expensive), and for sure Jesus (as his peers) knew the Psalms by memory. And regardless of...

The LORD says to my lord

Psalm 110:1 in the current Hebrew text make a difference between YHWH and Adonai (Kyrios), but we we don't know the text at time of Jesus (this psalm unfortunately is not preserved in Qumran). The LXX has "eipen o Kyrios tw Kyriow", and very probable also the Hebrew was pronounced in this way...

The LORD says to my lord

Yes, psalm 110, and in particular this verse, was the key prove to the eyes of the first Christians that Jesus is our Lord and our God. It is good that someone remind here this verse, the base of our faith.

What is the significance of Josiah's Passover?

Well Josiah actually invented the modern Judaism, canceling the trace of the old way of praying, in particular of the Asherah cult (the cult of the female Queen), [ strongly supported also by archeology] Not all were happy, see for example Jeremiah 44 "18 But since we stopped burning incense to...

How Vatican II adversely affected life for Catholics in the 21st century

In the middle-age the great poet Dante put four popes in his Hell, also the living pope (for who a place in the hell was already prepared). Dante was a true Catholic. I hope not, but also pope Francis may end in the hell (among the self conceited ones ?) I'm not a reticent Catholic.

What is the significance of SEVEN brothers in Luke 20:29?

Seven are the day of the first week in Genesis, and it means the fullness of the ages. So there is an other reading, not literal: the woman is Israel (or Jerusalem if you prefer), the husbands are the powers that ruled Israel during his history. Jesus teach that he women (Jerusalem) at the end...

    ukaine or russia?

When in November I was in Ucraina (in the safe West part), I was so impressed by the pictures of the young soldiers dead, placed in the main square of a little village above some candles. I pray for these men who died, and for the poor families they left. And I pray also for the poor Russian...

‘ Benedict trusted Francis. But he was bitterly disappointed,’ biographer says in new interview

I'm Catholic, and I know quite well Latin Sometime I read official bullas, documents issued by popes in the past centuries. Believe to me, you can find everything (not only about Jews, slaves, book, etc) Those documents are not Magisterium. Magisterium is the overall, continuous, accepted...

‘ Benedict trusted Francis. But he was bitterly disappointed,’ biographer says in new interview

Yes of course. Fiducia Supplicans is not a binding text. Catholic Church always teached that we Catholics cannot refuse to use the logic that God placed in our mind, and Fiducia Supplicans is entirey un-rational: if a sign is not a sacrament, it is a sacramental, by definition of sacramental...
