  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I might not consider myself to be strictly Baptist anymore, I don't know what to believe

I consider myself a Southern Baptist moreso through a technicality rather than doctrinal agreement per se. I am a member of a church affiliated with the SBC even though I rarely attend. I still like my church even if I don't necessarily agree with them on some non-essential points. I'd say I...

    Mytho-History

Idk if this justifies making a whole new thread, so I'll post my thought here. A lot of my current views come from the late Dr Michael Heiser. His approach is very illuminating since he is a scholar of OT Hebrew and all about going back to the original context of Scripture. While I think he's...

    Fundamentalist or Evangelical?

I associate Fundamentalism as making secondary or even tertiary issues a test of fellowship. I'm talking like insisting Christians should only use one particular translation of the Bible (especially if it's the KJV) or requiring young earth creationism in order to be a good Christian...

Is Scripture still inerrant according to theistic evolution?

Idk if I'd go as far as to say that Genesis is just allegory. I do think a lot of it is historical, but that the writers also used a lot of figurative language to express theological truths. I'm sure Noah, or somebody like him, actually existed as Genesis says, but I doubt he actually lived to...

Is Scripture still inerrant according to theistic evolution?

Interesting. I never heard of semantic plenary inspiration before, but I think I might lean towards that. I think verbal plenary inspiration is often treated like dictation theory, where the author is just God's type-writer. I know that isn't waht VPP nor it proponents actually teach, but I...

    Advent Christian Church

Anyone here familiar with the Advent Christian Church? The denomination has its roots in the Millerite/Adventist movement, but, afaik, it seems like the only thing they have in common with the 7th Day Adventists is a belief in annihilationism. I think this denomination is pretty close to my...

    Were you raised Baptist?

Kinda. I remember attending a Southern Baptist church when I was really little, like four or five. My family left it because attending felt more like an obligation and disputes with the leaders of that particular church. We attended a non-denominational mega church for awhile that taught all...

Adventists at the Crossroads of Legalism and Righteousness by Faith

I used to associate with the SDA, but never officially converted. They were influential on my religious background even if I don't necessarily agree with them on many points. I did consider converting at one point, but I think I just wanted to be a part of a community more than actually agreeing...

Why do you reject egalitarian beliefs?

I just don't see egalitarianism in the Bible. I think complementarianism has better support and passages backing it. That said, I'm complementarian-lite. I think only men should be ordained as pastors. I'm undecided about deacons. Outside of that context, though, I'm egalitarian. I think...

Is Scripture still inerrant according to theistic evolution?

So, I have recently become convinced of theistic evolution and see Genesis as mytho-history. Something I am still wrestling with is the extent of the Bible's infallibility. I think the Bible is true in everything it teaches, and contains no errors (aside from perhaps scribal errors) but that...

    Zwingli denominations

I don't think there's a Zwinglian denomination per se, but he is generally considered Reformed, like Calvin. However, I heard he might have secretly had Anabaptist sympathies. Most low church evangelical denominations are influenced by his view of the Lord's Supper.

    my eclectic view of futurism

I used to be a dispensationalist, and still somewhat sympathetic to that view even though I no longer agree with it. My problem with dispensationalism is that it seems to assume too much. I also don't like its wooden and literalistic interpretation of OT prophecies. However, while I reject...

If Theistic Evolution, how long did day 7 last?

I personal think the six days of Genesis 1 were literal 24 hour periods, but that does not necessarily contradict evolution, as Genesis 1 is about functional creation rather than material creation. So, Genesis 1 is describing God assigning purposes to various entities in the cosmos. In other...

    Saturday and Sunday

I'm personally undecided about the whole Sunday vs Saturday thing, and I think both sides make good arguments for their position. I guess in practice, I'm on the Sunday say due to it being more practical (there's a lot more churches that meet on Sundays than Saturdays.)

The Full Spectrum of Christian Belief on Origins - where are you?

I started our as YEC, then became an Old Earth Creationist. Now, I lean towards Theistic Evolution. Idk if I fully accept evolutionary theory as I have only just recently come around to it and haven't done much actual research on it, but I am a lot more open to it now than I was a few months...
