Actually most stats I've seen are based on a percentage of live births (note your above quote) - that's why most of these numbers, for me, do not tell the whole story. As the birth rate declines, mainly because of birth control, sterilizations, fewer marriages, etc., then naturally abortions...

I think it would be interesting if someone would compare the abortion rates and the population rates. In other words, relative to the population what is the rate of abortion. I suspect that it would show abortion rates decline as population decreases. If there are fewer women in the world...
