Didn't you get it, he was only arrested because he is black. The white woman whose apartment he forced his way into should be ashamed of herself for calling the police.

I would think that if it happened in the Ann Arbor MI area, or Metropolitan radius... cops were likely:

1) afraid to shoot THEE MOST PRIZED person in the local area... Remember now, Michigan is one of Top5 largest, most polarized football programs in the USA.
2) aware that he had no previous criminal history
3) witnessing him fight through the mental health crisis
4) learned that the White woman was not in danger

I disagree. I think those White powerful Administrators should have fired him when the relationship allegedly became known in the Athletic Dept... before the season started.

But since the ironic humor isn't landing, I'll re-state my earlier point.
As I noted before, home invasion situations aren't a "nuanced" situation in regards to police response.

It has nothing to do with the fact that he was Black, nor is the mental health state relevant.

There's no such thing as a "slap on the wrist" for a home invasion. It's a felony for a reason.

It's one of few crimes that, even several of the the blue states that are typically less friendly towards guns, authorizes the homeowner to shoot the person if they have that option available.

Trying to make it about race or his mental health situation is largely irrelevant. If a person was stalking me, and then ended up forcing their way into my home uninvited, it would very much be a "smile, and wait for the flash" from my .45 caliber camera.

The next time someone breaks into your house be sure and call a mental health professional because they might not be thinking clearly
And the college shouldn't have fired him, clearly he wasn't thinking straight, they should have got him some mental health counseling and fired the woman for tempting him

Having a mental health crisis does not give someone free rein to break the law.
If the police had not arrested him and he came back and harmed the woman the police would be liable.
Because they had been in a relationship this was a domestic violence situation and most police departments have strict guidelines about how those situations are handled

Yes, the COURT can get him some mental health treatment, the police have to worry about him coming back and hurting the woman because that would make them liable. Because they had been in a relationship this was a domestic violence situation and most police departments have strict guidelines for how those situations are handled. At the department I worked at if there were any signs of injury we had to make an arrest

It doesn't matter, he exhibited violent behavior by forcing his way into the woman's residence and since they had been in a relationship that makes it domestic violence, and frankly you don't know what he said you only know what was reported

You're mistaken. I was in law enforcement for 16 years before going into private security and I arrested more people for domestic violence than anything else.
It's a situation where you have to take action or risk getting sued.
If the police had not arrested the man and he came back and hurt the woman they would be liable

Because the OP's author has
1)never known of a similar or same mental health situation where a White person in mental distress was treated that way.
2)lived in that area before, and did witness how our Black friends are often not extended the same 1st Class citizenry that we Whites enjoy from local police.
