  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So I guess when you use the word "perspective", you are not meaning it's effect on the apparent size of objects as they get further away, you are using it in reference to your 'point of view' or your 'beliefs'. So it's not about evidence and observation, it's about what you 'feel' is the truth.

If anyone gives a proven, scientific fact, like the sun being 93,000,000 miles away, you laugh hysterically

Yes & I will carry on doing so, as this is not only one big lie it's also absurd, ridiculous & really one big joke & how anyone can believe such nonsense is beyond me.

How anyone can NOT believe this scientific fact, when they know next to nothing about science, is beyond me.
How anyone can say that they want the truth and then say that, whatever evidence they are given, they are going to stick to their beliefs, is beyond me.
How anyone can say that we should believe a person they consider to be truthful because this person is a born-again Christian, yet say that another born-again Christian is a liar, is beyond me.
How someone can constantly make such sweeping statements like "NASA are liars", when they don't even know one NASA employee, never mind all 17,000+, is beyond me.
How someone can seriously believe that all that the governments of the world are interested in is trying to deceive the rest of us about the shape of the earth, is beyond me. You think that Putin and Zelensky, who are knocking 7 bells out of each other, sit round a table with Trump, Starmer, Netanyahu et al and say "how can we deceive them further this week?"
How anyone can follow Jesus who is the Truth, yet also admit they are addicted to conspiracy theories, which have nothing to do with the Gospel and are not important, is beyond me.

And yet here you are.

I'm not changing the subject.
You said that how anyone could believe the sun is 93,000,000 miles away - which is a scientific fact - is beyond you.
I replied that how someone could NOT believe it is beyond me - not to mention some of the other nonsensical things that you say.

Saying, "now who's changing the subject?" is changing the subject - you have no answer for what I've just said so you make a false accusation.

You totally did, you turned it all around about me as per.
I read it as being about what you write in your posts, not about you as a Christian person. Clearly what you write is connected to who you are, but as I saw it, Strong in Him was responding to your words about the sun being 93 million miles away: "this is not only one big lie it's also absurd, ridiculous & really one big joke & how anyone can believe such nonsense is beyond me." Surely that is the point of a discussion forum. Somebody, in this case you, posts something, and somebody else, in this case Strong in Him, responds to it. She was not changing the subject, as you both wrote about the notion of the sun being 93 million miles away. If she'd started writing about Father Christmas, or how to make Bara Brith, that would be changing the subject. :) :)

I don't think they are. As I said, they are about what you writ in your posts. If you read her post 2243 again, you will se that it is all about things you have written.

That is a response to your statement.

Yes, I added a few extra things, but they are totally relevant; just of the other statements you make which are beyond me.

If you want a more specific reply to your statement - which I doubt you do - I believe it because people that I trust tell me that it is true. I.E qualified school teachers, those who write science textbooks, my dad (scientist) and my husband (physics teacher.)
I know little about science/astronomy so I choose to trust those who understand it and/or who have studied and practice it.
I choose to believe the results of their experiments and calculations; I don't know enough to do my own calculations which might show otherwise.
I also choose to believe any information they may have received from satellites or drones.

You don't. You choose to believe your conspiracy theories and the utterances of Dean Odle and Rob Skiba.

They weren't about YOU - I don't know you as a person.
All of those things are statements you have made in your many posts/threads on this subject.

Rubbish.

reBoots' reply:

For those with patience and an attention to detail, here is documentation describing one way it is done:

There is a virtual reality patent:

Application programming interface and hypergraph transfer protocol supporting a global hypergraph approach to reducing complexity for accelerated multi-disciplinary scientific discovery

which describes "A system for connecting one or more client applications running on one or more clients with one or more knowledge representation servers"
Yes, this is a patent. No, it is nothing to do with virtual reality.

As an aside, it seems you can patent anything if you pay enough. There seems to be a big gap between what this patent claims to do (in the description) and the means to do this (the claims).

Besides, even if this patent had any validity, it will have been overtaken by the large language model based generative AI (note: AI is very big on the A and very small on the I).

where "clients" = YOU
No. A client is a type of computer program. It makes requests.
"knowledge representation servers" = A.I. / IN THE CLOUD
No. A server is a type of computer program. It responds to requests.
How am I going to make the MetaVerse physically change the air molecules around your head so that you have a physical experience? From the above patent, "Atmosphere and hypergraph transfer protocol have the capacitance with the different types of entities and clustering structure to make physical changes in the pervasive and ubiquitous computing." For example, they can perturbate the air molecules around or within an electric vehicle and can rearrange the neurons in your head - at the same time, all for effect. IOW, they can spike your neural network (not to be confused with the spike protein red herring!).
On a forum like this, it is sometimes difficult to tell if someone is being serious or taking the mick. I was going give you the benefit of doubt and assume the later but a quick Google search found that this was copied from elsewhere (or did you write the original?)

Sounds impressive. But not to be confused with reality.

(I remember once writing about black currents in a corn field in the middle of a write up for a microwaves lab report. As I suspected, the lecturer didn't read it in detail and so didn't notice).

You should be well versed in science then ?
My dad was a brickie & my hub used to work with explosives demolishing high tower blocks so I know all about building & demolishing them, he was also a miner using explosives but I knew nothing about that.

No, because I wasn't interested in it and found it difficult.
My point was that people I know and trust have studied these things - and I believe them.

Here is a video which shows you why/how the sun, moon & stars are upside down in the south & it's really simple.

No, it shows a guy who hasn't the slightest clue.

I don't normally waste time looking a videos (for either side). It is interesting (at least, to me) to try and understand the arguments. The better videos (not this one) are a bit like watching a magician and trying to figure out how they do the trick. Where is the misdirection? The slight of hand?

In this video, the presenter claims that the top half of the flat earth is the 'northern hemisphere' and the bottom half is the 'southern hemisphere'. He doesn't understand a flat earth. On a flat earth, the areas in the 'northern hemisphere' are the inner circle - i.e. inside the equator, with the 'north pole' at the centre. The 'southern hemisphere' is the outer 'ring' between the equator and the 'ice ring'.

So, the two chairs were both in the 'southern hemisphere'. If the left chair was, say, at the bottom of South America, then the right chair would have been on Australia or New Zealand. So, he was actually claiming that the stars seen from South America would be upside down compared with Australia or New Zealand.

The correct position for the 'northern hemisphere' should be in the middle.

The flat earth analogies are always wrong. Sometimes just completely wrong. Other times, the idea might be OK but the scales are wrong (similar to showing a photo an elephant and mouse as the same size then claiming that if a mouse stepped on you, you you be crushed to death because elephants crush people to death).

Edit: just to be clear, the descriptions above are for a flat earth. The problem with a flat earth understanding is that it contradict reality. What we observe does not agree with what would be seen if the earth was flat.

Your absolutely right
I took it that HantsUK meant (in context) that the correct position of the north pole as far as the flat earth believers are concerned is in the centre. I don't think Hants UK meant that he believes the North pole is in the centre.
