  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why do people hate ICE...

If my understanding is correct, I believe I have read that you are an immigrant yourself, If this information is inaccurate, please accept my apologies.
Yes I am. And I am fully and completely an American. We came to America to become Americans and not to make America into where we came from.

Even if he is, it may well be in his interest to close the borders to stop any more from coming in.
Its in the interest of the country to:

1. Put a stop to illegal immigrants
2. Send illegal immigrants home
3. Restrict who is coming in.

The restrictions would be based upon the needs of the country, combined with who the immigrants are.

Yes I am. And I am fully and completely an American. We came to America to become Americans and not to make America into where we came from.

I am glad that you were able to come to America and made something of yourself and became an America. I do not know you, but I assume you have left your land to pursue a better life, may be for financial opportunity or escape persecution, but whatever the reason it may be, you were able to escape your old life and come to America for a better future.

Your experience is possible because, since its founding, the United States has identified itself as a nation valuing freedom and bravery, welcoming immigrants from around the world. This has been part of the country's history from the outset. A statue at the nation's entrance embodies this tradition with its inscription.

“Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

Throughout American history, minority groups have opposed various waves of immigrants, from the Irish, Germans, and Scandinavians in the early 19th century to Italians, Poles, Russians, Chinese, Jews, and Cubans in later years. Despite this opposition, most Americans have welcomed immigrants, believing that embracing newcomers is central to America's identity and uniqueness. Your story is possible because of this tradition of acceptance.

Consider the potential outcomes had the minority group opposing both legal and illegal immigration to America been successful at the time of your arrival. How might this have affected you or your family?

You assert that you have become American; however, I respectfully question this claim. Embracing immigrants and diversity is a longstanding tradition in the United States, as reflected in the welcoming spirit described by "the huddled masses yearning to breathe free." Your perspective, which appears to support restricting immigration, does not align with these core American values. Such views resemble those found in countries less open to foreigners.

Are they? Where does it say in scripture that a country should not enforce its border laws? Where does scripture say a country should let criminals go and there should be no consequences for violating a countries laws?

This has nothing to do with deporting people who are here illegally or crossing the border illegally.

This has to do with the church and those that belong to the church and what the church should be doing with its members. Its not a mandate that a one country shoild be responsible for another countries people.

This has nothing to do with a country enforcing its own laws. In fact justice would demand that the laws be enforced in a fair and impartial manner.

This is one of the most mis-used and misunderstood passages in scripture. At the time there were no border laws. Yet countries still had borders. In this particular passage the Hebrew word for the foreigner is rhe word "ger", which is a reference to someone who is not an Isreali, but a foreigner who has permission to be there. Those who are allowed to be there should be given the same courtesy the Israeli gets.

This is not a reference to those who come to the country without permission or those who are passing through.

Thos passage is not a condemnation of immigration or border laws. In fact the chapter talks about the Jews obtaining permission to be in Egypt which is another reference to borders.

Once again this is a reference to how we as believers should treat people in need as an individual. There is no command here for countries not have immigration law nor to have open borders nor does it
condemn nations who have and enforce border laws and remove people who have broken the countries.laws.

No where in scripture is there a command that governments should not have border laws nor enforce them. In fact Justice would demand they do enforce the laws they have.

I'm not the Bishops were out of line and are doing what many do. Misappropriation of the gospel. No where in the gospel does it teach that countries should not have immigration laws nor enforce them.

The family separation is a strawman meant to inflame emotions. Families.are separated all the time when a family member breaks the law. There arw many fathers, brothers ,sister, mother's who are in prison today who are separated from their families. For years. The difference is the families cannot go live with them. In the case of illegals, families certainly can go.be with the family member. In fact illegals are allowed to take their children with them if they want to. In prison today, mother's ir father's cannot bring the children with them.

Yet we dont see any emotional.outrage over that. Its emotional manipulation to satisfy a political belief. The belief being its okay to come and stay in America even if you are illegally here.

These Bishops are violating scripture and twisting it for political means.

Jesus did not mean that before a Christian give water to thirsty, Christian should verify legal status of the thirsty. When Jesus said give shelter to shelter less, jesus did not mean verify his immigration stratus before you welcome him to your home. When Jesus said take care the orphan, Jesus never meant that the orphan must be natural born citizen of your homeland.

The Bishops are correct about scripture, but those unwilling to listen often claim it has been distorted.

Irrelevant. The discussion is about what immigration policy is appropriate today.

Rhats a poem put there by the French. It is not nor ever has been immigration policy. There have been times in our history where we did not allow any immigration.

Its okay, we don't have to. And I actually have no problem with immigration. But we have been allowing people in who are NOT interested in being Americans. They are interested in berating America, attacking America, blaming America. People who hold as much loyalty to their home country as America. People who want to change the towns and cities into the same places they came from. People who desire to live off rhe largess of America while not being American.

We have also allowed millions of illegals who have assisted in raising rhe cost if living in America while at the same time causing wages to stagnate and taking jobs away from Americans.

When we came, we dropped all loyalty to our former country. We didn't ask any Americans to take care of us. We spoke English. We were dirt poor, but never took a dime from Americans. We paid our bills and earned our way. We never asked a single American to bend over backward for us.

It used to be that Immigrants like us came to America to be Americans. They didn't come and proclaim how horrible America is. In those days, they actually came a lot of times wirh nothing and received nothing from America in return. There wasnt freebies and government handouts. There was also a time where we really needed rhe immigrants. They were necessary to grow and build this country. We didn't have enough people to do what needed to be done.

Now we have immigrants who want to continually slam America, demand America give to them. They flat out lie about their circumstances. They work to tear down instead of create. They don't want to be Americans, they want ro be hyphenated Americans. They want their communities not to be American communities but, communities loke where they came from. Transforming American communities into their countries communities.
Consider the potential outcomes had the minority group opposing both legal and illegal immigration to America been successful at the time of your arrival. How might this have affected you or your family?
This is why I'm not against immigration. I'm for controlling it and only allowing people.in who want to be Americans through and through and are interested in building and not taking. Who are interested giving up what they left for the American way. When we came we left everything behind. We wanted to be American.

You assert that you have become American; however, I respectfully question this claim. Embracing immigrants and diversity
No its not. It was never diversity that we were looking for in America. It was unity. Diversity is a weakness not a strength. Diversity is division which is what is going on right now with people coming in. They don't want unity they want division. Their homeland in America. This is how we get places where Americans cannot communicate with others because they demand we speak their language. This is how we get towns that wake up their citizens in America at 5:30 am for the Muslim call to prayer. This is where we get ither countries flags being flown with pride while they burn the American flag. Tho
is is where we get places wanting Sharia Law in America. It used to be America first. Now its America second or third.

I repeat what Teddy Roosevelt said:

In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin,” Roosevelt wrote.

“But this is predicated upon the person’s becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American,” he added.

“There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all.

“We have room for but one flag, the American flag … We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language … and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”

As you pointed out the verses you like are only for his followers. They are NOT intended to create governement policy or law. If you believe they were then we must have laws against adultery, fornication, lying and homosexuality.

You either accept ALL of scripture as governmental law and policy or none of it. You do NOT get to pick and choose which scriptures apply to governmental law and policy and which ones don't.

It is relevant, as it reflects the character of someone supporting this policy. His stance appears to be "rule for thee but not for me."

I personally do not hate ICE, but I do feel that the thing has been mishandled. The way I see it is if a person is here illegally and that is their only crime leave them be. Now, if they are committing other offenses and/or they are using government resources then sure get them out, but still do so with respect
Ridiculous attitude. “If it’s their only crime leave them be”???? Joe Biden took that attitude toward the border and it invited much more serious crime. If we can’t control our borders this country is doomed. We can’t feed the the world or provide free healthcare to the masses without financially destroying this nation. If stealing a tv from Walmart is ones only crime, should we let them be ? A crime is a crime and should be treated as such.

What do you mean by "becoming American?" What standards do you use do determine that you are "fully and completely" an American?

You didn't answer the question. Do we have to take immigrants who are good people with no issues? Yes or no? Its not a difficult question.
It wasn't a question:

If 100,000 people apply for visas or citizenship or whatever and they are ALL good people with no records or no supporters of terrorism or terror regimes etc, doesn't mean we have to take them.
No one, including me, has said that: straw man.

ICE employee among 16 men arrested in Bloomington sex trafficking sting, police say

More than a dozen men have been arrested after trying to solicit a minor for sex in Bloomington, Minnesota, police say.

"When he was arrested, he said, 'I'm ICE, boys,'" [Police Chief] Hodges said during a press conference Tuesday. "Well, unfortunately for him, we locked him up."

Several months ago, police conducted a similar sting that led to the arrest of ex-State Sen. Justin Eichorn, who is currently facing federal solicitation charges.

If a crime is a crime then all crimes should be punished the same way ( which of course is not the way it is nor should it be.) Maybe I should have been clearer if someone comes over here illegally has lived for years has broken no other laws and has pulled their own weight (that is to say they have not been on welfare, SNAP ECT then they have clearly shown that they are of value to this country. This does not mean that small crimes should not lead to deportation ( think traffic offenses shoplifting ( things that for citizens are considered low level or in the case of minor traffic offenses not really crimes at all. Nor does this mean that if someone is caught say within the first maybe three to five years they should not be deported but the people who have been here ten, 20, 30 years and have NO other record the DACA people who came over here as young children and have NO other record and have pulled their own weight we got other things to worry about

If you support a givernement that does not outlaw homosexuality then that contradicts scriptural teachings. And your commitment to scripture is questionable. See how that works? If you support a governement that allows no fault divorce then your commitment to scriptural teachings is questionable.

I'm glad you recognize Christ's teaching is for his followers and not a governmental mandate. That being said I believe we can do both. We can treat illegals humanely and still deport them as fast as possible. There certainly have been questions regarding the conditions the illegals have been held in. Although I have yet to actually see these conditions. The illegals have been arrested, so as long as their detention status is no different than the typical inmate of a prison, then I don't have any issues with it.

Give them food, water and medical care as needed and put em in an 8x10 cell until they are deported. Even Jesus didn't tell believers to release all the prisoners.
