IF that were so I would expect Schumer to lead the way in punishing these errant Democratic senators, inflicting upon them some serious party discipline. But it was predicted near the beginning of the shutdown that Schumer would have to find some willing members to vote for the continuing resolution even if he would not dare do so himself. So, does Schumer punish these eight 'unfaithful' senators or just toss up some words about them?Lol. It was eight democrats who went behind Schumer's back to reach across the isle and hash out a deal and are now being ostracized by Chuck Schumer and the Democratic party for doing so.
You have seen my take that this compromise is evidence of a battle within the Democratic Party, one that the radicals lost. That this will not be the last battle in what is a civil war inside the Democratic Party. The progressives may soon be calling Schumer a Nazi in league with the chief Nazi of them all. And mobilizing primary opposition in next year's election to any Democratic legislator not left enough. That's kind of what they did in NYC. But without the spittle flecked nutty hatred bubbling to the surface.Oh, by the way, what was the back-door deal that was made? It was a "pretty please promise that we will have the opportunity to vote on this thing sometime in the future." Was that the democrat plan for shutting down the government for over 40 days? Laughable.
I think this is a purity issue for those on the left of the Democratic Party.
