Lol. It was eight democrats who went behind Schumer's back to reach across the isle and hash out a deal and are now being ostracized by Chuck Schumer and the Democratic party for doing so.

IF that were so I would expect Schumer to lead the way in punishing these errant Democratic senators, inflicting upon them some serious party discipline. But it was predicted near the beginning of the shutdown that Schumer would have to find some willing members to vote for the continuing resolution even if he would not dare do so himself. So, does Schumer punish these eight 'unfaithful' senators or just toss up some words about them?

Oh, by the way, what was the back-door deal that was made? It was a "pretty please promise that we will have the opportunity to vote on this thing sometime in the future." Was that the democrat plan for shutting down the government for over 40 days? Laughable.

You have seen my take that this compromise is evidence of a battle within the Democratic Party, one that the radicals lost. That this will not be the last battle in what is a civil war inside the Democratic Party. The progressives may soon be calling Schumer a Nazi in league with the chief Nazi of them all. And mobilizing primary opposition in next year's election to any Democratic legislator not left enough. That's kind of what they did in NYC. But without the spittle flecked nutty hatred bubbling to the surface.

I think this is a purity issue for those on the left of the Democratic Party.

Schumer, to my knowledge, has not said anything. And given who voted for the bill, I have no doubt that he fully sanctioned it. Durbin and Shaheen are retiring. Hassan, Cortez-Masto, and Fetterman aren't up for re-election until '28. Kaine, King (who is an Independent) and Rosen have until '30. In short, none of them are at any risk for the midterms next year. But even if he didn't, a Minority Leader who can't control his caucus should step down.

Tim Kaine - who's in a state with over 100k federal workers - made a statement (justifying his support for voting in favor of re-opening) to the effect of "people are expecting their elected officials to vote to reopen, and those who don't, could very well be replaced at the ballot box"

That's easy for him to say when he's got a 3-year buffer to the next election. I find it curious that no Democrats up for re-election in '26 voted for it (Durbin and Shaheen are retiring).

The facts are that it was a clean CR. SNAP was not an original issue. It was the ACA subsidies. The GOP is the majority party so they did not create the shutdown. Then as days go on the DEMS exploit the poor hoping to get the ACA subsidies retained. Now then the issue went to Court. The Court ordered a partial release of the SNAP funds. I agree here Trump should have just release whatever was there. But he did not create the original mess. The ACA is a failed program. They should scrap it & start over. The premiums are outrageous so a permanent fix is needed. Now part of the problem was state coverage to cover illegals checking in at the ER. We cannot sustain this. Having administered public assistance programs I can tell you that they are poorly designed. FS in particular seeks to add as many people but does not ensure a quality benefit. The Pentagon budget was $770 billion. Surely they could have found $2 billion to fix SNAP.

As it was, ALL Senate Republicans voted to keep the government open and not use hunger as a bargaining tool while only eight Senate Democrats voted to end the shutdown and fully fund hunger programs. The majority of Senate Democrats preferred to keep the government closed.

The point being the President had Congressional funds available to continue funding SNAP.....as he did in his first term....and as every President before him did so during a shut down. This time, Trump used the suspension of SNAP as a tool to step up the pressure. That was his choice.
