  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

For those folks here illegally. Yet essential to our economy, aka essential workers. Just ask the farmers and those in need of labor how essential they are. For those who have committed no crimes, why not just executive order a pathway to citizenship?
Because even with work visas they would still be contaminating the purity of our cultural institutions.

Jordan is a politician and will say or do anything his supporter wants. But the shocking part is the so-called Christian consider the enforcement of government laws to be
The masked marauders of ICE who "disappear'" immigrants can in no way be considered to be "enforcing government laws." Our government and our constitution guarantee due process. They do not authorize torture.

In just one well-publicized instance of ICE's inhumanity to man, a Catholic group sought to bring the Eucharist to the immig.ants at the Broadview ICE facility. ICE denied entrance to those wanting to give the immigrants, many of whom are Catholic, the body and blood of Jesus Christ.

Jesus, their brother, who was unjustly arrested, imprisoned, tortured, crucified and died, followed by so many heroic martyrs persecuted in Acts of the Apostles--St. Stephen, St. Paul, St. Peter.

And, BTW, there are "unjust" laws. God does not command us to follow unjust laws---which comprise I would estimate most of the unconstitutional overreach laws Trump has signed by edict.

The answer from MAGA is NO; they broke the law, so they must go back.

They expect us to believe that those being forced to return to their countries will then apply for US immigration and be allowed back. They assume we are gullible enough to think that MAGA wants to bring back the very people it is expelling.

This issue is not about the economy or legal status; it’s that some people simply don’t want them in the USA. Many Cubans who received legal status under President Biden have had that status revoked and are now being deported under President Trump, affecting over 500,000 individuals.

Even those who fought alongside Americans in Afghanistan have had their status revoked in the past 10 months. When statements are made “ we support legal immigration”, it is important to assess whether actions align with those claims. Often, actions provide a clearer reflection of intent than words alone.

This issue you raise is a legal question. If ICE does not follow due process, the matter may be addressed in court in the future.

My argument is that even if ICE operated strictly within legal protocols, these are secular laws and are not inherently connected to Biblical principles. Any Christian who equates the enforcement of government regulations with fulfilling the Lord’s work may not have fully grasped the intended message of Scripture.

Please. We and our children have a right to be protected from gang members and terrorists and hardened criminals. Tragically those with political ambitions exploited immigrants for their own purposes. Once the lawful immigration process is reformed we as a country should come together to let in as many as possible of those who love America and wish to become part of our culture.
Amen!!!

Such a tragic situation created by letting in ten to twenty million people, so many unvetted, in one presidential term. So many resources wasted because ambitious people decided to break the laws of our country. Those resources could have been used to bring in more who love America in legally.
This statement of Jim Jordan's strikes me as blasphemous.

I think Pope Leo has a clearer idea of what is the Lord's work.

Yes we do. But those guys washing dishes at Cracker Barrel are not gang members or terrorists.
Gang members are not picking produce or roofing in triple degree heat.
They are not the first people states like Florida call when hurricanes ravage those states.

There has to a balance here. Why not a pathway to citizenship?

They are capped. Why not just pathway to citizenship?
What do you desire? This cheap labor, or citizens? We have a waiting list for immigrants as it is. We are not in need of legal immigration in this country. Guest workers does not make for a slave class. These go back home with pretty good money in their pocket.

“feed the hungry, give water to thirsty, give shelter to stranger, clothed the naked, look after the sick, visit those who are in prison. (Matt 25) , take care the widow ( Acts 6), give justice to the weak and fatherless ( Psalm 82) take care immigrants ( Deut 10:19 / Psalm 146)”.

American do not object when law enforcement apprehends gang members, terrorists, drug dealers, and hardened criminals, subsequently punishing or deporting them. The public often commends law enforcement agencies for effectively fulfilling their responsibilities.

It's incorrect to assume that gang members or drug dealers work minimum wage jobs like picking tomatoes in the heat, cleaning motel bathrooms, or waiting for daily labor at a home improvement store.

Stop labeling every immigrants as "terrorists" or "gang members" during immigration debates. If you oppose their presence, state your position honestly regardless of their backgrounds.

Americans object to people coming here illegally, as well. Americans support calling on these governments to treat their people right.

ICE is doing what needs to be done because the previous regime broke the US immigration system. The current administration has ICE being used as a wrecking ball in which innocent people are being abused. This is more like Murphy’s law rather than the work of the Lord and Murphy’s law is a bipartisan demon.

Americans object to people coming here illegally, as well. Americans support calling on these governments to treat their people right.
I also believe that individuals should not enter the United States without appropriate documentation. It is my understanding that most Americans share this perspective. Only a small minority in the country support open borders and unrestricted immigration.

Would you categorize an individual who has spent the past 20 years picking tomatoes or cleaning motel rooms as a terrorist or gang member?

If these minimum wage workers are present without proper documentation and their removal from the country for violating legal requirements is desired, please specify this position clearly. But we must stop labeling every immigrants as "terrorists" or "gang members" because we want all of them gone.

It this the "Lord's work"?

(RNS) — Last month, the Rev. David Black stood in front of a Chicago-area U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility and spread his arms wide. Adorned in all black and wearing a clerical collar, the pastor looked up at a group of masked, heavily armed ICE agents on the roof and began to pray.

“I invited them to repentance,” Black, a minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), said in an interview. “I basically offered an altar call. I invited them to come and receive that salvation, and be part of the kingdom that is coming.”

But when Black began to lower his arms a few seconds later, the agents responded to his spiritual plea by firing pepper balls, or chemical agents that cause eye irritation and respiratory distress, video footage shows. One struck Black in the head, exploding into a puff of white pepper smoke and forcing him to his knees. Fellow demonstrators rushed to his aid, and as the pastor rubbed his face in pain, the agents continued to fire.
