  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

ABC pulls Jimmy Kimmel Live after comments on Charlie Kirk

No, no please. I love a good joke. Please tell me what the joke was.
When he ran the clip of a reporter asking how he was holding up. Seeing as his friend had just been brutally murdered. His response? 'Hey, I'm doing ok. But have you seen the work on the new ballroom'.

Yeah, he's heart broken. A complete emotional mess. Finding it difficult to come to terms with it all. But hey, my new ballroom!

Kimmel could have torn strips off the guy at that point for being so completely thoughtless. And rightly so. But he made light of it. He slid the knife in rather than bludgeon the guy with a 4x2. Hence his joke about the 4th stage of grief being construction.

But gee, the guy is just being authentic! Can't knock him for that.

Obviously I heard it. There was nothing remotely resembling a joke, which is why you can't tell the joke. It was just a vicious lie.
His remark about Trump being on the construction stage of grief was hilarious. Trump's response was an insult to his supposed friend's memory.

For being honest? It's not easy to love your enemies
No. It must have been so hard for his wife to forgive the kid. But that shows the strength of her faith. Kudos to her. Trump's comment, on the other hand, shows his complete lack of character. His job at a time time that is to bring the country together. There are so many examples of previous presidents doing just that. But all he wanted to do, and I mean 'wanted', was to divide.

He is the least worthy man to ever hold high office. And you can do nothing except excuse his words.

Who is "he"? What are you talking about?
Are you not paying attention? You asked about Kimmel. When Kimmel ran the clip. During his monologue. Please, don't tell me you haven't actually seen it...

nice joke from standup Gianmarco Soresi making the rounds..

I wrote a poem...

First they came for Colbert, but I did not speak out, because I never did a late night set on Colbert.
Then they came for Jimmy Kimmel, but I did not speak out, because a couple years ago he stopped having comedians do sets on his show.
Then they came for Fallon, but I did not speak out, because I did Fallon's show just last week.
Then they came for Seth Meyers, and there was no one left to book me.

I didn't hear a joke. That's more of a comment, really.

That's what Kimmel should do, make jokes ( and that one was funny)
Not try to gaslight his audience

He's already been rehired. He never did anything wrong about Charlie Kirk. But I believe most liberals are online more. Then TV. But I can be wrong.
How can't be rehired because he was only suspended.

Imagine if Trump had said "Love your enemies, forgive them, forgive the young man who killed Charlie "
The cries of hypocrisy and not taking his own advice would drown out any praise for his words.
So he might as well be himself.
As far as Kirk's wife she showed how things should be done and I know I couldn't have done it

I'm not even sure that you've watched the whole segment. I'm not sure you've watched or read Kimmel's comments from the night before that episode. I think that you're struggling to find anything of substance to complain about.

That's what Kimmel should do, make jokes ( and that one was funny)
Seems that some only rate it as 'comment'. Yeah, it was funny. It's always funny when you prick the ego of some pumped up figure. And that's Kimmel's job. To poke fun at those people. To make people laugh at them. And he's not bad at it (personally I think that sums him up - damned with faint praise. Colbert for example has better writers and a comedian's sense of timing - in my opinion).

But...whatever you think of his style and his abilities at presenting a humorous monologue, Trump doesn't get to cancel him just because he's the but of his jokes. If we're going down that path then there's no going back.

What he was suspended for wasn't a joke.
It was for trying to label Kirk's assassin as a MAGA faithful.
Like I said he should stick to trying to be funny.
Make fun of the president all you want, don't try to gaslight

He went off script. If I was his speech writer I would have written this:

'This was a tragedy. Not just for Charlie's wife and family. Not just for his supporters. But for the nation. We should all mourn. And we should try to forgive as well. God knows that I am struggling with that myself at this point. It's hard. It's easy to hate at a time like this but so difficult to love those that oppose what we are trying to do. But we should all try. Charlie would have wanted us to do that. He's want us to forgive. And look for that which brings us together. Not that which tears us apart'.

Now, how difficult would that have been to say. Ye gods, he should have been able to say that off script anyway. I typed it without any forethought. And didn't Trump recently say that he wanted to get to heaven?

He's not even trying, is he.

Sinclair Broadcast Group announced it will preempt Jimmy Kimmel Live! on its ABC affiliate stations, replacing it with news programming, despite ABC's decision to reinstate Kimmel after a suspension for insensitive comments made about the death of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. Sinclair stated that discussions with ABC are ongoing to evaluate the show's return, and that they will not air Kimmel's show until formal discussions are held regarding professionalism and accountability, and Kimmel issues an apology to the Kirk family and makes a significant donation to Turning Point USA.

He didn't label him as MAGA. He said it was the MAGA faithful trying desperately to disassociate themselves from any involvement. There's a difference. Which actually makes no difference.

It really doesn't matter who he supported or which side of the political fence he stood. It's relevant if you want to debate someone. It's relevant if you want to argue your position against someone else's. It's completely irrelevant if you want to shoot someone in the throat.

That's not a political position.
