  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Has Kirk's Death Prompted You?

Charlie Kirk wasn't anymore special than anyone else and he knew that it seems.
We all have the opportunity to be a Charlie whether in person or online.
I didn't follow the guy, but his stuff has been in news feeds more since he was murdered.
I'm angry that a Left leaning person thought the way to handle opinions he didn't like was to murder the person.
That's very dangerous!!
The murderer thought silencing Kirk's voice would take care of that or help, but it's only hurt that expectation.
We need to keep speaking the truth, yes in love and compassion when possible, but speak it and not let them, mostly the Left leaning, shut truth down!!

Whether you were a fan of Charlie's or not, has this prompted you to be more outspoken?

For me, this event is serving as a warning and a reminder.

1. The warning is that our country right now is like a forest in a drought, ready to burst into wildfire at the least spark. We must all be very careful with our words right now. No metaphors of fighting or conquering. No exaggerations to make a point. No caricatures of those who disagree with us. Speak precisely, accurately, truthfully. Be slow to make guesses about other people's motives, especially when evidence is sparse.

2. The reminder is to look for the Light of God both in one's self and in the other person. I am a beloved child of God; so is the person with whom I am speaking. Remember that, always, in every conversation. The Friends (Quakers) have taught me much in this regard.

As a scandinavian it is common and fully accepted to be outspoken. THOUGH we are careful to be "nice" about it. We allow everyone to have their say, have their own beliefs, live and let live. nothing changed there. we do not see much of the strong divisions you see in the US. we have never had that tradition. we think it is too far and ridiculous. we shake our head. we are like just let people have their say no point arguing. you cannot change others.

I hope everyone listens to Erika Kirk’s eulogy at the memorial. It speaks volumes about what these people were about. :praying:

I have to disagree. Charlie was a unique individual with a calling.

As far as being outspoken, I speak when led. I don’t relish debate.

Wish the Left leaning murderer of Charlie would have thought more like that

Aren't we all uniquely made by God...individuals with a calling, whether in the public eye or not.
I mean Charlie isn't any more special in God's eyes.
He is no respecter of persons "..God is no respecter of persons" Acts 10.

I wasn't a fan of Kirk but I did agree with him on some matters. But, I certainly am not a fan that blames the left or those that are so blind that they can't see the sin of both the left and right.

Never said the Right are sinless. No one is.
My focus is on the Left usually since they are at blame for so many ungodly things in the world.
Maybe some are blind to that.

You said "We need to keep speaking the truth, yes in love and compassion when possible, but speak it and not let them, mostly the Left leaning, shut truth down!!"

The "left leaning" are not trying to shut truth down. The right has done far more against freedom of speech than the left has. Jimmy Kimmel said nothing which should be considered bad. He spoke the truth.

I think he had a calling that many of us do not have. That’s what I mean by special. Of course the Lord is no respecter of persons. But he had a calling and a very special one. His influence was very far reaching. His wife will help fuel his legacy.

We are not all called to the same things but are part of a large tapestry that only God can see as far as our gifts, etc. But Charlie was called to something that had a far reaching effect. As far as I’m concerned, he was special. We may be all be Charlie as far as his pov but we are not all Charlie as far as our callings.

I think Charlie had the gift of compassion and empathy for those he disagreed with. But he was not so worried about popularity as he was the Truth. By that I mean, he was not doing the self apologetic thing to be accepted by everyone. Nobody likes a waffle. His faith informed his politics. It was not the other way around. We are not all called to the same things. Every situation calls for some wisdom and discernment for every individual.

Yes. We all need to speak to as many people as possible. Charlie knew what the right thing to do was, and we too know what the right this is. We need to warn everyone of the Judgement to come, and then we need to tell them of their wonderful saviour who gave his life for us all.
But first, we need to repent of our sin, we also need to repent of our apathy towards the lost, and then ask the Holy Spirit to fill us. The Holy Spirit was given so what we would speak. Time and time again in the New Testament, we see that those who received the Holy Spirit spoke. So, live in a way that honours God and pray that His Holy Spirit fill you to overflowing so that it comes out of your mouth.
So yes. This has prompted me more.
I have to disagree. Charlie was a unique individual with a calling.
We too have a calling. To preach the Gospel to as many people as possible. Whether that is those on the street, our work, school or our friends. We should desire that all hear the Gospel. -This is why we have the Holy Spirit.

I’ve already said we do not all have the same calling. Not all of us are apologists, called to debate, etc. our witness for each one of us is unique. I’m definitely no Charlie Kirk.

Please consider:

Nonchristians will watch you FAR more intently than they will listen to you.
That is true.
We all were at that point of "watching" Christians.
We will see strong Christians all the way to weaker Christian in what they share/say.
There is nothing wrong with being bold in what a person shares.
Several individuals in the Bible are recognized for their boldness in speaking for God or advocating for justice!!
The apostle Paul is a prominent example. Others are Nathan, Stephen and Isaiah.

Well, if the purpose is to lead someone to Christ, there CAN be wrong things; especially if there is incongruency between word and deed.
