If someone who is considered to be extreme far right by Democratic liberals is rebranded old Democrat, what does that say about the current Democrat?

They are probably so woke that they alienate a good part of the country from voting for them.

I don't think so, Trump is the driving force on immigration policy.
The various public statements, memoirs, and on the record reporting about Trump I, show that Miller was the main driver of harsh anti-immigrant actions. While Trump likes to appear harsh and decisive at times he lacks the drive to push through harsh policies. (Think about all of those statements on the Russia-Ukraine war where Trump is *always* talking about "the killing needs to stop".) Trump also wants to be loved and respected. He is also not an ideologue. All of this deters "harsh policy". Miller does not care about being loved. He is an ideologue and he is very goal oriented. (Immigrants must go.)

You know this how?
The family's attorney has spoken to the mother and has been giving interviews on TV.

I didn't see where the judge ordered that the child be remanded to the custody of the father. Do you have that ruling?
How could there be a ruling if the government ignored the requests of attorneys and the family for three days and removed the mother and her children from the country before a hearing could be scheduled?

Would it be fair to say that Trump is basically a 1980's Democrat?

I would say comparable to a Democrat who lost in 1980.

But taken as a whole, Carter served in the Navy on submarines and was a Church going good Christian who over all was a good person. As president he micromanaged too much and had too much compassion. Not good traits for president.

They don't need to. Immigration law does not require they do so.
Yes it does. A person cannot be removed without a hearing after two years in this country. If they ask for asylum, the law requires a hearing, regardless of length of time in this country.

I'm beginning to think that since she signed paperwork requesting the child to be with her,
The paper work didn't look like a request, just a statement of fact.
Also the lawyer's explanation showed that she was under extreme duress at the time, and was unable to contact and discuss the matter with the father.
ICE had her and her child detained, they offered to send her child out of the country with her as they were forcibly deporting her, we don't know if they offered to send her child back to the father.
They gave her a pre written letter to fill in the blanks, did they have a pre written letter that allowed her to fill in the blanks and let her child go back to her husband? Would have she been afraid that her child would have got lost in the system and she wouldn't see her child again for years or forever, just like what happened with people in the Separation at the Border policy of Trump's first administration?

The Biden administration lost track of hundreds of thousands of children, the Trump administration is trying to find them to re-unite them with their families. As to this lawyer, how could the lawyer claim she was under extreme duress when the lawyer wasn't even there?

They are in contact with, and have spoken to, the mother in Honduras.

The Biden administration lost track of hundreds of thousands of children,
Trump claims Biden lost track of over 300,000 migrant children. Here's a fact check.

Republicans began making claims that more than 300,000 unaccompanied children had been "lost" after the Department of Homeland Security released a report in August which showed that Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, did not serve notices to appear in court to 291,000 children between fiscal year 2019 and May 2024.

Additionally, 32,000 unaccompanied children failed to show up for immigration court dates from fiscal year 2019 to 2023.

Notably, around half of this period occurred when Trump was president.

ICE said delays in issuing court notices to some of 291,000 unaccompanied children may stem from some being eligible to apply for asylum or legal status. In some cases, that process might be allowed to play out before ICE sends them a court date to begin removal proceedings.

"This is not a 'missing kids' problem; it's a 'missing paperwork' problem," said Jonathan Beier, an associate director of research at the Acacia Center for Justice's Unaccompanied Children Program, which helps represent migrant children.

It's also protocol for the refugee resettlement office to follow up with sponsors around 30 days after the child's release, but a percentage of these phone calls have gone unanswered during the Biden and Trump administrations.

Both Republicans and Democrats have previously cited these missed calls to make claims that unaccompanied children were lost by those administrations. However, unanswered calls do not necessarily equate to these children being missing or in danger, experts say.

the Trump administration is trying to find them to re-unite them with their families.

Trump administration seeking access to database of immigrant minors

The office has long operated independently of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement out of concern that the minors’ undocumented family members and sponsors may not come forward to claim them, fearing arrest.

A similar effort during President Donald Trump’s first term drew swift outrage from civil liberties groups that said it forced children to stay in federal custody longer and led to the arrests of immigrant adults who had no criminal histories.

Homan, the former acting ICE director who is now overseeing Trump’s mass deportation campaign, has long described his plans for an effort to track down minors whom he considers “missing.”

He estimated that there are 300,000 who fit that description, after record numbers crossed the border during the past four years. He has insisted that his intention is to check on their safety, not to arrest and deport their families.

Immigrant advocates and experts say the children are not missing and are often with their parents and other family members. The ORR conducts follow-up welfare checks on minors soon after they release them to sponsors, but many of their phone calls are unreturned.

“The claim that all these children are missing is bogus and just an attempt to deflect attention away from the Trump administration’s horrific family-separation policy,” said Lee Gelernt, a lawyer for the American Civil Liberties Union, referring to the forced separation of migrant families during the first Trump administration.

Biden did not properly vet individuals or sponsors, one sponsor had over one thousand individuals! This baloney that they are not really missing, they just don't know where they are or where the paperwork is totally irresponsible. The cartels made a lot of money off of trafficked laborers and sex trafficking because the Democrats looked the other way. No one should excuse human trafficking, and these "sanctuary" cities and areas are slowing the children from being rescued. Shame on those people.

With April being “Child Abuse Prevention Month,” DPS troopers have rescued more than 600 children through its Interdiction for the Protection of Children (IPC) Program, DPS said. IPC officers are trained “to identify victims of exploitation, missing children, crimes against children and high-risk threats against children,” DPS said.
Through Gov. Greg Abbott’s border security mission, Operation Lone Star, DPS troopers rescued more than 900 children illegally brought into the U.S. in Texas alone under the Biden administration, The Center Square reported.

Why won't the mainstream media truthfully cover the trafficked children and attempts to find them?

I see, then there was no ruling. Is there something preventing the father from going and getting the child and bringing the child back?

I thought the mom had a hearing. Did she not have one?

No incorrect there is a time limit for asylum consideration.

So a mother who is the child's legal guardian signs a paper stating she is taking the child with her is somehow wrong? What, we're we supposed to rip the child from the mother's arms and keep the child despite her wishes?

Just because she's an illegal doesn't mean she has no parental rights. The mother and father can still talk and the mother can still give the child to the father if that truly is what she wants. She could sign full custody over to the father.

Once again, the statement does not express any wishes.

Money. Shouldn't the USA pay for him and his daughter to travel there and come back?
Also the risk that once he is on the other side of the border that ICE won't let him back into his own country? He might just get disappeared or end up in a prison in some foriegn country. It seems this govt doesn't need evidence or due process and can just ignore court rulings.

I'm fascinated how some of the same people that argued about how father's rights were being violated, when it came to abortion, seem to now be arguing that the father has no rights when it comes to deporting their minor child from the US.
