  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Trump admin. concedes Maryland man from El Salvador was mistakenly deported/sent to mega prison - shrugs 'nothing can be done' [ETA: oh but it can!]

We’ll right this trade imbalance one human rights violation at a time!

It's funny, I just noticed that percentage is also my birthday.

But like Oompa says, after this situation gets enough milage, poster child Garcia will be dropped as he's replaced by the next protested outrage.
Garcia will be dropped like BLM did to George Floyd once the money stopped flowing in.

That's because Bukele's clever retort must be portrayed as him actually being stupid by the left, because he's not doing what they want, and because he seems to be getting along with Trump.
The bar for "clever" has gotten pretty low.
Literally everyone knows that eh? Nah, certain people are just making that claim. But like Oompa says, after this situation gets enough milage, poster child Garcia will be dropped as he's replaced by the next protested outrage.
Yes literally everyone, without exception.

Youre probly right about people moving on. But thats the kind of point typically made by people who cant tackle the argument on principle: start talking about "the discussion".

Is it though? You have still yet to answer my question. How can someone claim that Garcia did not receive due process when their are court documents showing due process and court orders?

Have you read the US Supreme Court document I referenced?

President Bukele has no reason to lie about Garcia being a terrorist. This seems to be a case where the US court system should have deported Garcia back in 2919 and failed to do so.
except that he's friends with trump, if they start questioning the idea of them being terrorists, the US might force all of them to come back, and suddenly he loses all that money we know trump had dubious relationship with truth. look trump could solve all of this with the proof.

All "of this" could have been solved if President Trump had simply requested to have Mr Garcia returned when DHS informed him of their mistake. Instead, he chose to not do what any other president would have done....and now, openly mocks an order from the US Supreme Court.

...or "really bad" American citizens....you know, citizens who don't have the right tatoos.

President Trump just said he was open to sending American citizens convicted of violent crimes to President Bukele’s prison in El Salvador. Trump had a similar response when Bukele first offered to jail convicted American criminals in February.

“I’m all for it,” Trump said, adding that his attorney general was studying whether the idea was legally feasible. “If it’s a homegrown criminal, I have no problem, no,” he said, adding: “I’m talking about violent people. I’m talking about really bad people.”
Hey, wait a minute - the US has a thriving private, for-profit prison industry, so isn't this off-shoring eating into an important American industry?

The bar for "clever" has gotten pretty low.
No, it's not low enough considering those not getting the obvious.
Yes literally everyone, without exception.
Believe it or not you're not able to read everyone's mind.

and it looks more like the Trump administration has helped facilitate the abduction of a man out of the US on behalf of a foreign government.
Uh-oh. That hadn't occurred to me, but it makes as much (and more) sense than it being an "accidental administrative error" actively defied multiple court orders. Eek.

Yes their complete disregard for an order from the Supreme Court is also a major concern especially when they’re talking about sending actual American citizens to this very same foreign prison.
The order was to facilitate Garcia's return. If El Salvador is unwilling to return him, there is nothing to facilitate. Thus, there are no disregarding of any supreme court orders.

"he's friends with trump" automatically makes him a despicable enemy to be trashed to no end. And whatever El Salvador's main export to the US is, certain people will probably start setting it on fire.

Why should Trump to ask for El Salvador's criminal back?
You mean rather than Bukele simply sending him back?

Because Garcia is more than likely to be tortured there and the US is theoretically opposed to that (so far). Because the Supreme Court ordered Trump to facilitate his release and asking for him back would do that. Because he was illegally deported on Trump's own initiative. Because it would be no skin off Trump's teeth but would save the guy's life and help his American family.

The order was to facilitate Garcia's return. If El Salvador is unwilling to return him, there is nothing to facilitate. Thus, there are no disregarding of any supreme court orders.
We PAID to have him incarcerated there. And there is zero evidence that Trump even requested the return of Garcia - he could have made the request during the presser but he decided not to do that.

Well, El Salvador is maintaining a new import from the US - prisoners. We pay them to take the people.
