  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

As a German I am just amazed that this hasn't been a requirement before. Here you need to be registered in the electoral register in order to vote, and for that you need proof of citizenship. Anything else would allow non-citizens to vote, and how is that not banana-republic stuff?
Yup.

People need ID to buy alcohol, cold medicine, spray paint, fireworks, I can go on. Why not voting?

How many papers should we be required to take to the polls?
Should we carry them everywhere in case some ICE officials demand to see our papers?
The SAVE act wouldn't require anyone to take any papers to the polls. I believe that this proposed law would require proof of citizenship and ID in order to register to vote.

You are proud of voter suppression, gerrymandering, closing polls early in cities to prevent black people from voting?
You are proud of Republicans who want to put their thumb on the scale and make things harder?
None of that is happening,

Either one takes money and time to get.
It takes time and money to get a driver's license. It takes time to get a credit card, or a debit card, it takes time to get a marriage license. Therefore, why shouldn't it take some time in order to be a legally registered voter?

Yes, it is common sense. Why would the Democrats lie about the border being safe, secure, and closed while allowing in roughly 10 million non-citizens and then be so against voter identification?

None of those things are constitutional rights.

None of that is happening,
Would it be better to say should individuals be proud to be unaware of the many documented acts of voter suppression, many overturned by the courts?

Just four Democrats voted for the bill. No one should be against this bill. Note the article has the usual Democrat false accusations.
I'll meet you half way. Create a no cost national ID that can be used for both voting and gun registration. Create a national database so we can track and study gun violence, limit violent people from buying guns, and use that to ensure only citizens can vote.

Guns are not violent. It will take a Constitutional amendment to take away the right to own a gun. I suggest Democrats make that part of their party platform and see if they can sell the idea to the American people. That issue has nothing to do with registering to vote.

Would it be better if you could actually prove that there has indeed been significant voter suppression over the last few national elections?

Guns are not violent.
And yet so many people manage get get dead by them.
It will take a Constitutional amendment to take away the right to own a gun.
Unless you are a felon. Or on a military installation. Or in a court house. Or in hundreds of other specific instances when it does not apply.

I suggest Democrats make that part of their party platform and see if they can sell the idea to the American people. That issue has nothing to do with registering to vote.
Yes, I suspected the idea of compromise necessary to live in a democracy might not appeal.

Sure. But I am at the gym now.

Please explain that to the Parkland, Sandy Hook and so many other grieving parents.
Then duck.

You might want to do better than a Wikipedia link and your link did not really talk about "significant voter suppression over the last few national elections.
What could be more significant than the attempts by the president himself to have an election overturned?

Did he peacefully leave office when Biden was sworn into office as President? Yes. Therefore, President Trump did NOT engage in voter suppression at all.
