10News filed an open records request for a list of the 574 titles pulled to comply with Tennessee's Age-Appropriate Materials Act, which recently went into effect this summer after the law was amended in 2024.

Some books included classics like "To Kill a Mockingbird." Others were highlighted nationally as the target of book bans, such as "The 57 Bus" and "The Perks of Being a Wallflower." Other titles are usually studied in classrooms, including "Of Mice and Men," "Fahrenheit 451," "Lord of the Flies," and "The Outsiders."

Not one of those books in your list is about making America great again. Some are in fact downright dour and counter-triumphant.

The document only has titles and authors, and the school referred questions to the 'legislative sponsors' of the bill.

Yeah, I read "To Kill a Mockingbird" "Of Mice and Men" "Fahrenheit 451" and "Animal Farm" all in high school as was required by the English curriculum.

Maybe banning books will get students interested in reading, which I said before, IS A GOOD THING ;)

It's counterproductive, eh?

Calvin and Hobbes? How in the world is that ban worthy?
Those compilations were incredibly helpful developing my vocabulary growing up.
People can get offended by anything these days *shrugs*

It promotes critical thinking and even worse: entertaining yourself with your own fantasy. That's no good, children need to consume to support the economy.

There's a Robot Chicken version of that, depicting Calvin as being very mentally unstable. I'd love to post the video but I think it's probably too close to inappropriate for CF.

Lol, Calvin and Hobbes, even in the name, are decidedly according to a Christian theme and mindset.

I wouldn’t say liberals, some don’t like the n word used in it, or the plot makes some people uncomfortable, which is literally the point of the book.
