CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Like feed the starving, heal the sick? Yeah. But of course, mention that that's what USAID does and that gutting it means that many will die simply prompts posts about what flavour condoms are being sent to Hamas. People who post that will ignore the children suffering from malnutrician and all the protein packed food ready to be sent going to waste as noted above.

If funding was being used appropriately beforehand then the auditing would probably not have to be as stringent as it needs to be now. Waste needs to be cut and sending condoms to Hamas is absurd, surely you can see that, yes? Maybe those programs that feed and cloth the hungry could in the future come back online someday. But as of now, there needs to be accountability with all the waste fraud and corruption that's been going on for decades. People in positions of power have abused the system and they need to be held accountable.

If you believe junk like that then there's no much chance of a sensible conversation.
No! You don't stop everything, the majority of which is feeding the hungry and treating the sick and say 'Well, once we've sorted out what we can trim then maybe we'll restart the programmes which are saving lives.' You don't work like that! You don't let people die while some functionary decides what cuts are politically beneficial. You just don't do that. It's criminally insane. It's immoral. It shouldn't happen. Supporting it makes you complicit. You have to argue against it.

Yes, i believe that DOGE has identified many wasteful, corrupt programs during their auditing process of USAID. If you want to flat out deny absolutely everything they are bringing to light, you are burying your head in the sand. Thats your prerogative i guess.
Again, if there wasn't so much waste, fraud and corruption going on, none of this would be happening. Things listed as beneficial to humanity around the world need to be vetted because money is being mismanaged and just because something is labeled as a good cause doesn't mean that it couldn't be hiding corruption. That's why programs within USAID need to be suspended right now. In order to identify what is legit from what is criminally false.
If USAID has good programs that feed and cloth the hungry, that's fine, they will likely be reinstated. Good programs do not require bad programs in order to function. They are mutually exclusive.

If you've been paying attention at all you'd realize that the majority is actually being used on corruption and waste. Billions upon billions of dollars. But that's just if you're paying attention, which im sure you are.

You completely ignored everything I said. How did you manage to do that? Was it too confronting to address? Was keeping what you think is worthwhile and cutting what you don't at the same time too complex for you to consider? Are sacking people and then being told that they hold critical positions and trying to retire them seem like a good way to do business?
Wherever you work, the boss says he's going to bring in an efficiency expert to trim the fat. No problem, you think. You're a valuable member of staff. You just got promoted. But the guy says that the company will cease trading while he has a think about it. Got a mortgage to pay? Tough luck, your salary has been stopped. Got children to feed? Got bills to pay? Got a wife who needs expensive meds? Well, just tough luck, old boy. And hey, you just got the sack, because of that promotion you're in a probationary position. Oops. Come in on Monday and security will escort you to your desk for 10 minutes so you can collect your things.
Do you think that's the way to run things? Well, yeah. Actually it seems that you do. Welcome to your new world.

I respect you, as you know. But where did Trump say every immigrant is a rapist? He did say illegal immigrants are criminals—and he was right. He did not say 'felon', to my knowledge. He did not say they were all gang members, to my knowledge.
Granted, the way you arranged that sentence, you could have meant that he said that all were one or the other of those five things you mentioned. But the intimation is simply that, according to Trump, they are no good at all, and worse. That they committed a crime in crossing illegally can hardly be debated, unless you wish to take the side of some and say that law enforcement did not stop them, and they have done no worse than to exceed the speed limit.
(And, we are not talking about "some refugees" here (not that you did so, but, to nip that in the bud). That's for another thread, I think, like arguing that abortion is about rapes and incest and saving the mother's life.)
And, no, this is not just a fabricated problem.

That they are illegal is obviously a given. But you do know that Trump has demonized them. It's not really up for debate. I mean they eat pets, for heaven's sake. They must do. Some guy said it on TV. He is appealing to those who really do think that immigration is 'poisoning the blood' of the US. I mean, you got to keep your bloodlines pure!
So he lied to you all. He lied when he said that countries are emptying their jails and their mental asylums. He lied when he said that they're murderers and rapists (although some, he assumes, are good people). He lied when he said he was going to go after the worst of the worst to start (forget the thread earlier of some mom and pop running a take away who have themselves been taken away). He lied when he said he'd deport them all (11 million?).
Why does he lie so much? Why does he need to do it? And why do so many people believe him?
