Why is it a great idea to not do whatever is necessary to clean up as much dead brush, wood, weeds, tree branches and other dead stuff on the grounds of California forests? Why is it a good idea to allow lots and lots and lots and lots of kindling on the grounds of your state's forests?
We have controlled burns here. Because we have hurricanes, we have crews constantly searching for and removing dead and dangerous trees and brush.

The result is that we rarely have wildfires and, when we do, they're usually small and easily managed.

California chooses not to do those things and now the rest of us are on the hook for billions in aid.

Yes but you can purify salt water. It might be something they should look into in the future
Contrary to what Trump and his mignons are saying there is plenty of fresh water in Los Angeles. The issue is getting that water into hilly and sometimes remote areas. It takes a lot of energy to make water flow uphill.

The most recent fire (I hope) in the Hollywood Hills is near the Hollywood Reservoir. The walking and biking trail around the lake is 3.5 miles long! The lake dwarfs the output of any conceivable desalination plant, which in any case would produce fresh water lower (thus needing more infrastructure to pump it uphill) and farther away from any of the current fires.

The issue is NOT available fresh water. But Trump wants to blame this on California's environmental efforts.

Which is where the responsibility lies.

"The fact is, he would not have been in So. California if it were not for the birth of his grandson."

Thank you for admitting why he was really there.

There was nothing to "admit" since I, nor anyone else, has claimed that Biden went to California for the wildfires.

It's been bone dry in the Southwest and across Southern CA for the last few months (no winter rain to date)....80 mph winds in these conditions will be very bad news.
So incredibly sad.

I see Biden as insensitive to the plight of hurting people. He can't even fake authenticity.
I reluctantly agree that President Trump is leagues beyond Biden in faking authenticity.

In a different area (Pacific Palisades), the fire hydrants did to dry on the first of the fire. In hind sight, one might ask how much water capacity should a given area have on stand by. Obviously, many municipalities would be hard pressed to meet 4 x demand over a 15 hour period.

LADWP’s explanation for the shortage comes down to three nearby water tanks, each with a storage capacity of about a million gallons. These tanks help maintain enough pressure for water to travel uphill through pipes to homes and fire hydrants — but the pressure had decreased due to heavy water use, and officials knew the tanks couldn’t keep up the drain forever.

“We pushed the system to the extreme,” LADWP CEO Janisse Quiñones said in a news conference. “Four times the normal demand was seen for 15 hours straight, which lowered our water pressure.”

According to LADWP, the tanks’ water supply needed to be replenished in order to provide enough pressure for the water to travel to fire hydrants uphill. But officials said as firefighters drew more and more water from the trunk line, or main supply, they used water that would have refilled the tanks, eventually depleting them.

....one of the better summary of the fires as of Thursday afternoon:

For reference - he's talking about one fire being 10,000 acres and another being 17,000 acres. Manhattan is 14,000 acres. Los Angeles is dealing with an area burning that's twice the size of Manhattan.

Does fresh water put out wildfire better than ocean water?
I've been told nothing will grow where you use the salt water but I understand that they are using it in their planes

Another area comparison that I discovered recently is that the Angeles National Forest, which is involved in the Eaton fire, is roughly the same area as Rhode Island. That's a lot of raking.

If you salt soil heavily enough nothing will grow. It is a tradeoff.

Also loading a scooper plane requires a large body of water. Thinking about it, a large body of water that is fairly flat. That means the ocean is usually a good source. But high enough winds could result in a swell that could create issues.

Copter buckets only need a small body of water.

BTW it does seem fresh water is slightly better for putting out fires. It has a greater cooling ability and does not raise issues regarding conducting electricity. That later would be especially important if someone were to try using salt water for truck based operations (where people are holding the hoses).

Some things I have noticed, every year the state of Michigan dumps millions of pounds of salt on the roads and yet, stuff grows to the edge of the
asphalt/concrete.

also, every warship and commercial ship has a salt water fire fighting system using a lot of this same fire fighting equipment that land based fire fighters use and they do just fine.
In addition, most ships are made of conductive metal yet they still use seawater.

Arson suspect arrested in Woodland Hills near Kenneth Fire

Residents who reportedly spotted the suspect held him down until officers arrived. Photos of the arrest shared on the Citizen app show officers surrounding a home where a male suspect was apprehended.

Authorities have not confirmed whether the man was responsible or had any connection with the current wildfires. His identity was not released.

...and what is Mr Trump doing to help?
I think he had some suggestions on raking forest floors the last time he was in office. Perhaps he'll get around to buy some rakes, now, if his tax cuts for billionaires allow it in the budget.
