  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A MAGA ‘Civil War’ on X between Musk and the far right over H-1B visas

The online rift over the H-1B skilled-worker visa program signifies a potential wedge between Trump’s core base and his new Silicon Valley supporters.

The controversy spread across X after far-right activist Laura Loomer on Monday criticized Trump’s choice to name Sriram Krishnan, a technology entrepreneur and investor who was born in India, as his senior policy adviser on artificial intelligence. She pointed to Krishnan’s previous support for removing some caps on green cards and easing the ability of skilled foreign workers to come to the United States. The policy is “in direct opposition” to Trump’s agenda, Loomer wrote.

Musk, who once held an H-1B visa and has relied on the program to employ thousands of Tesla employees, said recruiting foreign workers is a crucial way technology companies recruit the best engineering talent to compete globally. “The number of people who are super talented engineers AND super motivated in the USA is far too low,” Musk wrote on X on Christmas. “If you want your TEAM to win the championship, you need to recruit top talent wherever they may be.”

Trump has offered few specifics about how he will address high-skilled immigration in the tech industry during his second term.

On a June episode of the “All In” podcast, which is co-hosted by Sacks, Trump said he would automatically give a green card to every international student with a college diploma.

Technology companies are particularly reliant on H-1B visas — which are capped at 85,000 new visas annually — to help recruit talent. Amazon, with 3,871 new H-1B employees, had the most approved new petitions in 2024, according to data compiled by the nonpartisan organization National Foundation for American Policy. Google had 1,058 approved applications, and Tesla had 742, the data showed. (The Washington Post is owned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.)

Vivek Ramaswamy Says America Doesn’t Have Enough Engineers Because We Mocked Steve Urkel

America loves jocks [and prom queens], and that's why we don't have any good engineers... or something.

The West is decadent. We must import superior foreign culture.

Now Ramaswamy and his fellow Trump-aligned tech bros have taken to defending immigration programs for skilled workers and students as they find themselves at odds with the nationalist front of the MAGA movement. This was bound to happen, it’s just a little surprising that the war broke out before Trump even took office—and on Christmas day, no less.

Elon Musk’s Critics Stripped of Verification Badge After Publicly Challenging Billionaire

Trump ally Laura Loomer, New York Young Republican Club president Gavin Wax, InfoWars host Owen Shroyer, and the pro-Trump ConservativePAC were all stripped of their verification badges after criticizing Musk’s controversial remarks about American workers and foreign H-1B visa holders.

“[Musk] has removed my blue check mark on X because I dared to question his support for H1B visas, the replacement of American tech workers by Indian immigrants, and I questioned his relationship with China,” wrote Loomer in a post on Musk’s social network X, formerly known as Twitter:

Elon has decided to retaliate by removing my blue check and demonetizing me.

In another post, Wax joked, “Okay let me try this and see if I get my badge back: Americans are stupid and lazy and have created nothing. India is a superpower and has the smartest and best talent the world has ever seen. America needs 1 billion new migrants to bring us the fruits of civilization. We are stupid and must repent!”

Folks working for big tech companies aren’t undocumented.

These firms like the H1B because it allows them to pay less for foreign workers while still exerting a lot of control over them. Because of the sponsorship requirements involved, folks on an H1B are pretty restricted in their ability to find new jobs, so they’re more incentivized to take whatever garbage an employer decided to dump on them.

If DOGECo was serious about getting more qualified people over here and not merely ceding more control to employers, they’d advocate for doing away with the visa requirement altogether and just open the border.

Certainly I think we can and should have (as we do!) 'two lanes'. One for temporary agricultural guest workers, and one for skilled employees. We just need to work on figuring out the correct width of each of those lanes.

It's complicated all around. Documented tech workers have limitations on the number of people allowed to come in .Farm workers have no limits on the number of people that can come in but employers have to follow strick rules, which they don't follow hence undocumented, and the migrants themselves have to go through a lot of hoops. Need to dig deeper on this one.

We can nuance the first category some:

Illegal immigrants cleaning toilets - good thing, no complaints'
Legal immigrants (like, for instance, asylum seekers) cleaning toilets - bad thing.

The difference? Illegal immigrants are not protected by US wage and labor laws and can be more easily exploited.

Curious - regrding the quote from Vivek in the OP

What part is wrong?

One of things my wife I did, way back in the 90's and early 2000's was restrict television for our children to maximum an hour on week days and two hours on weekends. It made them read and play games with each other. There were no sleepovers and not one of them had a phone before 16. And their first phone was not a smart phone.

No, this thread is about the 'civil war' within MAGA.

Liberals don't have a problem with immigration or immigrants or making visas of various kinds more plentiful.

No, this thread is about the 'civil war' within MAGA.
Then you should close the thread because there is no civil war in the Republican Party - what there is - is the ability to voice disagreements. WAPO's opinion piece behind the paywall (I would not pay for this kind of trash) - is skewed and once again attempting to paint the administration in the worst possible light. Not surprising.

It's not like what appears to be nothing but tribe speak in the Democratic world where you follow the tribe or get pushed out - i.e. Bernie Sanders etc.
Liberals don't have a problem with immigration or immigrants or making visas of various kinds more plentiful.
Conservative do not have a problem with immigrants either - the President is married to one - he has two as DOGE Advisors and one is about to be Secretary of State.

It's obvious that both Musk and Vivek support them. Read the OP.

What they and 80% of Americans in general have a problem with is illegal aliens.

Of course not - without them, your side would have to come up with another scapegoat. I imagine that gets tiring after a while.

What gets tiring (speaking as the son of a legal immigrant - one of those little brown people) it the left's never ending us of us as some time of weapon for demagogy the right. LEGAL immigrants are some of the biggest supporters of removing ILLEGAL ALIENS - it is why so many of us left the Democratic Party and supported Trump in a higher percentage than any Republican candid in 40 years.

But the left doesn't seem to understand that. It's an insult to everyone of us who came to America legally, who followed the laws and processes to become part of this society. For the liberal to lump us in with illegal aliens is degrading and insulting. Keep doing it and you might not ever get power in office again.
I suppose it was that other 20% who were going after the Haitians legally in Springfield?
It's digs like this that do not help your POV one iota except with others of same mindset - it is getting to the point that we are beginning to pity you because you seem to be trapped in a narrative that does not touch reality and is getting further and further away from it every time you repeat it.

It’s “digs” like that that show the fallaciousness of your argument. The right absolutely does use legal immigrants as scapegoats, as the business with Springfield showed, and no amount of hemming and hawing on your part will change that.
